Tom Barrett: 911 Calls, Transcript

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, here's audio of 911 calls placed in response to the beating of Mayor Tom Barrett.

One call is from the grandmother of Anthony J. Peters' 14-month-old daughter.

Transcript

911 DISPATCHER: Dispatch Emergency 911.

GRANDMOTHER: Yes, I need some police right away.

911 DISPATCHER: What's the problem?

GRANDMOTHER: 8725 W. Orchard. My granddaughter's birth father just tried to pull her out of the car, broke my cell phone, threatened to shoot us and to shoot himself.

911 DISPATCHER: Where is he right now?

GRANDMOTHER: He ran down, ran down Orchard St. There were some people from the Fair that were walking past and I jumped out of the car and I shouted for them to call 911. And then my neighbor came out and told me to come in the house with the baby.

911 DISPATCHER: Where's your daughter?

GRANDMOTHER: What?

911 DISPATCHER: Where's your daughter?

GRANDMOTHER: She is, she's out with her boyfriend. She's not at home. Nobody's home right now.

911 DISPATCHER:I thought you said he tried pulling the daughter into the car.
GRANDMOTHER: My granddaughter. Oh, wait. There's a policeman. OK, there's a policeman by the car.

911 DISPATCHER: OK, go out there and talk to him.

GRANDMOTHER: OK. All right. Thank you.

Another call is from Mayor Barrett's 20-year-old niece, Molly.

911 DISPATCHER: OK, what's going on there?

MAYOR BARRETT'S NIECE: It's the mayor of Milwaukee. I'm sorry.

911 DISPATCHER: What's going on?

NIECE: There's a beating on 88th and Orchard. There's some guy arguing with his girlfriend, and my uncle just tried to step in and the guy took a stick to him and hit him over the head and he's bleeding all over the place. We need an ambulance.

911 DISPATCHER: You're on 88th and Orchard?

NIECE: Yes, in West Allis, right by State Fair.

911 DISPATCHER: OK, stay on the line. I'm going to get some squads en route. Stay with me, OK?

NIECE: OK.

911 DISPATCHER: 88th and Orchard. Battery in progress. Male is getting hit with a stick, and he is bleeding from the head at this time...

NIECE: He's bleeding a lot. Can you please?

911 DISPATCHER: OK, we're going to get somebody out there.... Is the person that did this still on scene?

NIECE: No, he ran away.

911 DISPATCHER: The person ran away. OK.

NIECE: Yeah.

911 DISPATCHER: OK. We've got squads en route right now. Yeah, we've also got an ambulance en route, OK?

NIECE: I'm sorry?

911 DISPATCHER: We have an amublance en route and also squads.

NIECE: OK.

911 DISPATCHER: Let me just get squads dispatched....

NIECE: The ambulance is coming.

911 DISPATCHER: OK. And what did this person look like that did this to him?

NIECE: He was Hispanic, and he had longer, he had probably shoulder-length hair. He was heavier set. He's probably about 5'6" or 5'7".

911 DISPATCHER: OK. Which direction did he run in?

NIECE: I'm sorry?

911 DISPATCHER: Which direction did he run in?

NIECE: He ran south.

911 DISPATCHER: Southbound on Orchard... on 88th...

NIECE: South through people's yards.

911 DISPATCHER: OK....

NIECE: He was Hispanic and he was about 5'7". He had shoulder-length hair, white t-shirt, heavier set, jeans. He ran down through these people's yards. He was wearing jean pants.

911 DISPATCHER: OK. Jean pants and a white shirt. Are the officers on scene with you, ma'am?

NIECE: I'm sorry?

911 DISPATCHER: Is there an officer there with you right now, ma'am?

NIECE: Yes.

911 DISPATCHER: OK, I'm going to hang up with you.

NIECE: He was approaching some woman who was in a car and I can give you the license plate if that helps.

911 DISPATCHER: OK, I'm going to have you give that to the officer on scene there, OK? OK. I'm going to hang up with you.

NIECE: OK, thank you.
