Kanye West and Taylor Swift (Video)

UPDATE: West - Apology 2

I feel like Ben Stiller in "Meet the Parents" when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave... That was Taylor's moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry.

Kanye West has a history of doing some outrageous things on live TV.

In 2005, during NBC's Shelter from the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast, a fundraising event for hurricane victims, Kanye West "went off script" and called President Bush a racist and made despicable comments about the military having permission to shoot black people.

West was paired with Mike Myers. Myers read his lines and then West selfishly went his own way. Keep in mind this event was meant to raise money for victims of the hurricane. It was a telethon.

Transcript

KANYE WEST: I hate the way they portray us in the media. If you see a black family, it says they're looting. If you see a white family, it says they're looking for food. And you know that it's been five days because most of the people are black.

And even for me to complain about, I would be a hypocrite because I've tried to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation. So now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what's, what is the biggest amount I can give. And just to imagine if I was, if I was down there, and those are, those are my people down there. So anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help, with the set-up the way America is set up to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off as slow as possible.

I mean, this is, Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of the people that could help are at war right now fighting another way. And they've given them permission to go down and shoot us.

Myers, looking uncomfortable, then continued reading his prepared lines.

When Myers threw it back to West, he picked up where he left off.

WEST: George Bush doesn't care about black people.

His rant at last night's Video Music Awards paled in comparison to his Katrina screed, but it was terribly inappropriate and selfish.

From MTV.com:

This year, Kanye West picked the beginning of the Video Music Awards to deliver one of his famous rants.

The rapper stormed the stage just after the first award, for Best Female Video, was presented to Taylor Swift. He cut the teen singer off, grabbing the mic and protesting in support of Beyoncé.

"I'm sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time," he proclaimed as B looked on from the crowd, stunned.

During the 2007 VMAs in Las Vegas, West delivered another rant and lost his temper after he was displeased with his performance being set inside a hotel suite rather than on the show's main stage.

'Ye's rants are usually in support of his own work. He memorably took the stage at the American Music Awards in 2004, declaring he was robbed of the Best New Artist nod.

His protest against Swift, however, was not well received. West stood briefly on the stage after his comments as the crowd was silent. Audience members then began to clap in support of Swift after West left the stage.

According to reports from inside the house, once cameras cut away from the action, West flipped off the crowd and returned to his seat. Wale then said to the crowd, "You can't blame a man for speaking his mind." His words were met with boos, and Wale then said, "Kanye, I tried." During the next commercial break, Pink walked by the rapper and appeared to shake her head in disgust before security escorted her away. West remained steadfast amidst the commotion as he kissed his girlfriend Amber Rose.

West is a disgrace.

It would have been in bad form if West had protested Swift's award at any point during the broadcast, but to interrupt her acceptance speech was so incredibly selfish and childish.

I disagree with Wale. You can blame a man for speaking his mind, at least the way West did.

It was completely out of line.

West owes Swift an apology.
