Obama will do Letterman next Monday night, and vice versa.

From the New York Times:

Mr. Obama will be the sole guest on “The Late Show” on Monday, Sept. 21, CBS said in a press release. “President Obama’s appearance will mark the first by a sitting U.S. President on the Late Show and his first visit back to the show since his election,” CBS said.

Mr. Obama made an appearance on Mr. Letterman’s chief competition, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” last March. Back then, it was called “a rare personal visit by a commander in chief to late night television.”

Mr. Letterman’s show is the latest stop in what Josef Adalian of The Wrap calls “President Obama’s health care world tour.” Mr. Obama is expected to appear on five Sunday morning talk shows this weekend.

Here's the release just issued by CBS:
President Barack Obama will visit the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, Monday, Sept. 21 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. He will be the sole guest on the broadcast.

President Obama's appearance will mark the first by a sitting U.S. President on the LATE SHOW and his first visit back to the show since his election. In total, this will be President Obama's sixth visit to the broadcast – he last appeared on the LATE SHOW Sept. 10, 2008 during the height of his 2008 Presidential election campaign.

Obama will be on the full hour!

When he was Jay Leno's guest, March 19, 2009, when Obama made his infamous "Special Olympics" joke (video), Garth Brooks was the musical guest.

I suppose Obama wants every minute of TV time he can get.

I guarantee that Letterman will not challenge Obama on anything.

CBS really adores Obama.

I wonder if Steve Kroft will be there for the taping.

A 60 Minutes crew will likely chronicle the appearance, behind the scenes, for use on Obama's next segment on the Sunday show.

October maybe? November? A one year anniversary since Obama's election extravaganza?

Maybe Obama will be the sole feature on 60 Minutes, too.
