From AP:
CBS says an employee has been charged with attempted grand larceny in an investigation involving "Late Show" host David Letterman, who has acknowledged that he had sexual relationships with female employees and that someone tried to extort $2 million from him over the affairs.

CBS says the employee worked on "48 Hours" and has been suspended pending the results of the investigation. The network says the employee was arrested Thursday, hours before Letterman went public with his account during a taping of his show in New York.

The network says it's cooperating with authorities.

From RadarOnline:
[T]he alleged extortionist lived with the woman who David was involved with.

The affair happened a long time ago, before his son Harry was born, and before he got married, but he was living with his wife to be at the time.

Halderman needed money police say and decided to target Letterman.

The woman still works on the show but is no longer involved with David.

More from AP:
The network said late Thursday the person who was arrested works on the true-crime show "48 Hours" and has been suspended. A person with knowledge of the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity said the suspect is Robert J. Halderman.

A "48 Hours" producer named Joe Halderman was part of a team nominated for an Emmy for outstanding continuing coverage of a news story in a news magazine in 2008.

Two numbers listed for Halderman were disconnected, and a message left at a third number was not immediately returned Thursday.
