Muslim Family Day - Six Flags Great America

As the 9th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks approaches, Six Flags is preparing to host Muslim Family Day -- on September 12th.

Bad scheduling?

Apparently, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois (Chicago) didn't host the festival last year.

I do question the timing of holding a Muslim Family Day festival on September 12th. It's somewhat insensitive to schedule the day of family fun on the weekend of 9/11.

However, on the Muslim Family Day website, there's a history of the event. It takes note of the 9/11 attacks.

History of the Event

This event was first held at Six Flags Great Adventure, NJ, in September 2000. The event was immediately a huge success. The tragic events of 9/11 that resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives, also affected this event directly. The chief organizer, Tariq Amanullah, who worked on the 96th floor of WTC, Tower 2, passed away. The team was unable to come together again till year 2004, when the event came back bigger than ever before.

Clearly, steps are taken to acknowledge the terrible loss of life and destruction.

Muslims also were victims of the twisted, barbaric ideology of radical Islam on September 11, 2001.

I wondered why Muslims had their own day at Six Flags but there were not similar events for people of other faiths.

Looking at the schedule of events at the Chicago park, I see there's a Catholic Family Day.

Obviously, the park hosts events for groups of all sorts. I didn't realize religious groups had their own days. I never heard of the annual Catholic Family Day. Apparently, there's no concerns about the separation of church and amusement park.

I have no problem with Muslim Family Day at all. Unfortunately, the date of the festival isn't the best. Although I suspect the vast majority of families that will attend on September 12 most likely oppose the terrorist tactics of Islamic extremists and condemn them, it would be better for the group to steer clear of that horrible anniversary altogether. The utmost sensitivity should be employed to the 3000 victims of the 9/11 attacks and the thousands left physically and emotionally scarred.

Dealing with the anniversary of 9/11 is a burden that the Islamic RADICALS have placed on Muslim Americans. It's unfair, but life isn't fair.
