Obama, Madison Rally

UPDATE: Russ Feingold and Obama didn't appear together. Feingold spoke for a few minutes and left the stage. Then, Tom Barrett was up next to introduce Obama. Feingold never was on stage standing with Obama.

UPDATE: Feingold to join Obama in Madison

In a Tweet to his supporters, U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold said Tuesday that he had finished voting in the U.S. Senate in Washington and would join President Barack Obama today in Madison.

Here is what Feingold wrote: "@russfeingold Great day to be in Wisconsin! I made it! Finished voting and am proud to join President Obama at my alma mater.

Feingold had taken some heat for not being in Madison, though he had said weeks ago that he wouldn't be there because he hasn't missed a vote in the Senate.

Well, well, well.

Feingold will stand with Obama.

I'm sure Ron Johnson is very pleased.

Feingold and Obama together -- That will be a very rare sight indeed, almost as rare as Obama being seen going to church.

Here's the invite from Obama:
Friend --

I'm excited to gather with supporters in Madison tomorrow at the University of Wisconsin's Library Mall.

We've got a lot of work to do between now and November 2nd to keep moving America forward. But this movement has never backed down from a tough fight.

I hope you can join me. If you haven't already, please RSVP here.

Hope to see you there,

President Barack Obama

P.S. -- OFA's Wisconsin State Director, Dan Grandone, passed along some nuts-and-bolts details of the event that you should know:

The New York Times reports that the Madison rally is an effort to recapture Democrat enthusiasm.

Yeah, nothing recaptures enthusiasm like a JOB. Nothing helps mitigate malaise like a PAYCHECK.

It's the economy, stupid; it's not longing for the halcyon days of 2008, Obama the Charismatic.

All the Leftists in Madison and beyond can converge at the rally. They can whoop it up and cheer and faint at Obama's feet.

None of that matters.

The economy sucks. Wisconsin is no longer Obama Dem territory.

Help is on the way thanks to Scott Walker and Ron Johnson and Sean Duffy and other conservatives.

Thanks for nothing but economic misery, Obama. Thanks for nothing, Democrats in the House and Senate.

I didn't think it was possible for them to do so much damage so quickly. It's been even worse than I feared.

He's going to talk about making college more affordable, which will go over big with the mostly-college-kid crowd that has the time and motivation to walk over to the mall (where they are anyway on a weekday), and cheer him on. Yeah! Obama's make college cheaper! Obama is letting us stay on our parents' insurance until we're 26! Yeah!

He's a regular Santy Claus to most college kids who are 1) young, and therefore naive and idealistic, and 2) are the recipients of many of the goodies Obama likes to dish out on the taxpayers' dime

Some of my own family members will be there swooning, as they did in 2008, joyous that they got to vote for Obama in their first-ever Presidential election. My nephew exalted over the prospect of getting "free" health care.

Ah, youth.

A successful rally today isn't going to translate into wins in November for Feingold and Barrett.
