Jerry Brown Campaign Apology: Meg Whitman Whore

Jerry Brown's campaign issued a statement today, a half-hearted apology, in response to the revelation of a taped conversation between Brown and his aides.

On the tape, Meg Whitman is called a whore.

From the Sacramento Bee, here's the "apology":
The campaign of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown apologized Thursday after one of his aides was overheard referring to Republican rival Meg Whitman as a "whore" in a taped telephone message.

..."This was a jumbled and often inaudible recording of a private conversation," Brown campaign manager Steven Glazer said in a statement. "At times our language was salty. We apologize to Ms. Whitman and anyone who may have been offended."

"At times our language was salty."

Good grief.

Calling Whitman a whore is worse than "salty."

Obviously, the Brown campaign is ruthless.

I'm sure this isn't the first time they've referred to Whitman and women in a disrespectful manner. This is just the first time it was caught on tape.

The Brown campaign deserves no credit for issuing such an inadequate apology.

They had no choice but to release a response as a matter of damage control. I don't think the apology is sincere.

UPDATE, October 11, 2010: Source: Brown's wife called Whitman a 'whore'
Fox News is claiming it has sources whom have identified the person in Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown's campaign who called Republican challenger Meg Whitman a "whore."

The comment was accidentally recorded on voice mail after Brown thought he hung up the phone after leaving a message for the Los Angeles Police Union.

Fox News says people with knowledge of what happened say it was Brown's wife who suggested calling Whitman a "whore," for cutting a deal to get the union's endorsement.

...The Fox News source notes that Brown's wife, Anne, is a former executive at The Gap and can't exactly be fired from the campaign.
