Tom Barrett and Open Sky

A message about Tom Barrett, from Dave Seager, Milwaukee Firefighters Union, and Mark Buetow, Milwaukee Police Association:

Today when we put on our uniform, we do so with the expectation that, without warning, we may be putting our lives on the line to protect friends and neighbors in our community. We do so willingly, but also with the expectation that our equipment and our years of training will protect us.

But each day for the past six years, we have had to face perilous situations with a lingering doubt. When we, and our brothers and sisters in uniform, push the button on our radio to call for help, we aren't always sure anyone will hear us. That's because for six years, Mayor Tom Barrett has not come through on a promise to keep us safe while we are keeping you safe.

Officers with the Milwaukee Police and Fire Departments have had consistent problems with the radio system, called "Open Sky," noting dead spots and other issues. Officers involved in incidents at schools, caught in high speed chases, even an officer who was shot while serving a search warrant were all unable to call for help!

This cannot continue! That's why, even though we work under Mayor Tom Barrett in the City of Milwaukee, we are supporting Scott Walker for governor. Mr. Walker has always prioritized public safety as Milwaukee County executive - exempting sherriffs officers and other essential personnel from furloughs. Scott Walker will make the tough choices to fix our broken government, close the budget deficit, and get our state working again. But he won't do it at the expense of public safety. I encourage you to watch our ad and share it with their friends to encourage them to support Scott Walker - the only candidate for governor with a true record of supporting public safety.

Sincerely,

Dave Seager, Milwaukee Firefighters Union
Mark Buetow, Milwaukee Police Association

This is inexcusable.

Tom Barrett has no excuse. For six years, Barrett failed Milwaukee's police and firefighters. He's failed his constituents, putting lives at risk.

I understand why Scott Walker has the support of the members of the Milwaukee Firefighters Union and the Milwaukee Police Association.
