Dave Begel thinks it's time for Brett Favre and the Packers to call a truce.
I think it's time for Favre to call Aaron Rodgers and congratulate him on winning the Super Bowl. He could also apologize for being such a jerk to Rodgers these past three years.
Begel talks about being classy, that the Packers should show some class.
The Packers have handled the Favre situation remarkably well. In spite of repeated digs by Favre, the organization and the players have not let him be a distraction.
Aaron Rodgers has shown incredible class by not engaging in a feud with Favre.
Begel's goofy scenario about how his imagined truce would play out is so lame. I assume he's not serious about the details, but that doesn't make his underlying point any less ridiculous and inappropriate.
Although Begel's Favre/Rodgers/Packer organization/fans fantasy is truly bizarre, he is serious about a truce.
The one person who could make this happen is Bob Harlan, the former team president. Harlan loves the Packers and he loves Favre. Both sides would listen to him. And this team now should act with the grace and dignity that befits a champion.
But in order to convince Harlan to undertake this mission, there ought to be a groundswell of support from the Packers' fans. What we need is fans to start a clamor of support for this idea.
So, let's go folks. Get on board this train as it pulls out of the stadium.
I'm celebrating the present, our tremendous championship team. It's time to honor them.
I'm looking forward to the future and years of title runs.
The last thing on my mind is convincing Harlan to negotiate some deal with the guy who got his wish to play for one of the Packers' division rivals and worked to undermine the success of his former team.
Begel ignores the fact that Favre doesn't love the Packers. He's not about the team. He's all about himself. As a result, Begel's planned "mission" for Harlan is doomed.
The Packers have conducted themselves with grace and dignity. To my knowledge, no one in the organization has made any official statement condemning Favre for his classless and often childish behavior. Aaron Rodgers hasn't whined about the way Favre has treated him. He focused and went about his work of becoming the quarterback of a championship team. He found role models with character and class, like Bart Starr, Steve Young, and Kurt Warner.
Favre, on the other hand, has been a disgrace throughout. Any apology Favre would make would be utterly self-serving, a complete farce. He has made it known that he has no regrets about his choices. The spiteful, immature Favre did it his way - void of class and dignity.
Let's savor this incredible moment and celebrate the return of the Lombardi Trophy to Titletown.
Let's honor our Packers - their courage, achievement, teamwork, and commitment to excellence, their will to win.
Truce with Favre?
Now?
Bad timing, Begel.
I suppose he'd think it would be a good idea for a guy on his wedding night to tell his new bride that he's going to call to his former spouse and mend their broken relationship, letting bygones be bygones. He'll give his new wife his undivided attention later.
Very bad timing.
