Read: Entertainment industry makes Super Bowl Media Day a media circus

Long ago, the NFL saw the crossover marketing potential in welcoming not just sports media but the likes of E!, Letterman, Leno, Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon as well.

“Media Day went from being just a sports event to a sports and entertainment event,” Steeg said. “It was all good.”

The NFL is expecting more than 5,000 media members to cover Super Bowl XLV and related events, which would be the most in the game’s history. The record is 4,786 for 2008’s Super Bowl XLII with the New York Giants and New England Patriots.

You can be sure most of the 5,000 will be at Cowboys Stadium on Tuesday, where there will be journalists interviewing players, comedians interviewing players, scantily-clad males and females interviewing players, players interviewing players, as well as any combination of the above.
