WI Teachers, Doctors MAY Face Consequences

Oooh!

There MAY be consequences for the unethical behavior by doctors handing out fraudulent sick notes in Madison.

There MAY be consequences for the teachers hoping to cover their absences with these "get out of the classroom" free passes.

Consequences. Yeah, right.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Protesters in Madison who obtained medical excuse slips to cover their absences from work, and the doctors who issued them, are likely to be subjected to more intensive examinations.

Officials from the Madison and Milwaukee public schools and UW Health said Monday they would consider disciplinary action against the doctors and the school workers drawing criticism for what some consider a sick-day dodge.

The doctors in white lab coats were caught on video by reporters from the MacIver Institute on Saturday. They were directing protesters to the available absentee excuses and filling out the forms for those marching in protest of Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill.

Because of the staff shortage, Madison schools were closed much of last week and on Monday.

Workers were told they would need to provide a form from a medical professional for any absence after Wednesday, the 16th, according to Dennis Syke, a spokesman for the school district.

He said district officials were gathering the names of the physicians reported to have issued slips on the Capitol Square and would investigate those excuses presented by the absent staffers.

In Milwaukee, the public schools closed on Friday because hundreds of teachers called in sick.

Their excuse slips will be sent to the human resources department for review, according to Roseann St. Aubin, spokeswoman for the Milwaukee Public Schools.

“There’s no rubber stamp,” she said.

As for the doctors, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health announced it would investigate the actions of doctors affiliated with the UW clinic. The issue to be determined is whether the distribution of sick slips violated medical ethics or the UW Health policies and work rules.

A statement from UW Health said the doctors were “acting on their own and without the knowledge or approval of UW Health.”

Another agency, the Wisconsin Medical Society, also has begun to review the doctors’ work over the weekend.

I don't think anything will happen to these doctors or these teachers.

These statements claiming that there will investigations and consequences are BS.

I don't buy it.

The public schools and the UW clinic and the Wisconsin Medical Society are simply responding to the embarrassment of their employees and members being busted.

Issuing these statements makes them appear responsible to quiet the outraged public, both in Wisconsin and around the country.

Nothing will happen to the ethically-challenged doctors and teachers.

Read the statement from the Wisconsin Medical Society.

It's empty. CYA.

Maybe we can march them in from f their peers and give them a stern lecture. That worked with Charlie Rangel.
