Nick Milroy Tackled by Police (Video)

UPDATE: Milroy tackled by police, says officer was aggressive

A state legislator was taken to the ground by a police officer Thursday as he tried to enter the closed Capitol -- a move the lawmaker called unwarranted.

“I think the officer that took me to the ground was too aggressive in his approach,” Rep. Nick Milroy (D-South Range) said in a Friday news conference.

He acknowledged Friday he himself had been aggressive in trying to get into the building, but he felt strongly lawmakers should be able to get into their offices.

Milroy, displaying an ID that showed he was a legislator, was tackled by a Two Rivers police officer just outside the Capitol as he tried to get in. A video of the incident shows Milroy getting up after he was tackled and shouting at the officer, “I need to get clothes in my office!”

Milroy was let in the building a few minutes later through a different entrance. Milroy said he apologized to the officer and was not seeking an apology back.

“Law enforcement is just following the orders that come down from (Gov. Scott) Walker,” Milroy said. “We have a palace guard mentality at the Capitol.”

Exactly as I expected.

Milroy didn't cooperate. He was aggressive. Act like a thug you'll be treated like a thug. Of course, security is tight, given the escalating mob violence and rounds of live ammunition found around the Capitol.

Milroy should have realized that the officer is charged with protecting public safety rather than becoming aggressive.

"Palace guard mentality" - good grief.

I knew the Dems would spin the incident that way.

______________

Democrat Rep. Nick Milroy was tackled by police as he tried to enter the Capitol.

From WKOW:

Representative Nick Milroy (D-South Range) had a confrontation with Capitol police as he tried to enter the building Thursday night.

Milroy was trying to get clothes from his office but police would not let him into the building. They tackled him as he tried to get past officers guarding a door. He was able to get the door open and struggled with police before they took him to the ground.

Everyone was ordered out of the Capitol Thursday night as part of a Dane County judge's ruling. The building will remain closed until 8 a.m. Monday morning.

Why didn't Milroy obey the police?

Why would Milroy refuse to listen and try to force his way into the building? Why did he choose to struggle with police?

Does he think he's special and doesn't have to follow the orders of the police? I assume the officers, good union employees, would have handled the situation with tact if Milroy had calmly discussed the matter with them rather than getting into a physical altercation.

Of course, they tackled him. He obviously didn't listen.

Actually, I think Milroy and the Democrats wanted the police to react as they did. They wanted a show of force to use as propaganda. The problem is the police are union members, a Catch-22.

Instead of valuable propaganda footage for the Dems and the union thugs to exploit, what the video shows is a guy acting like he's above the law.

Expect to get tackled if you ignore the instructions of police and attempt to bust through officers guarding the Capitol.

Here's video:

Do the Dems, the union bosses, and the socialist agitators really want to demonize the police, their union brothers and sisters, in this case?

Are you kidding? He WORKS THERE. This is HIS OFFICE. He had every right to enter that building. The order for everyone to be removed from the building at 8pm should have applied only to the protestors, not to those who work there.

My God, the Republicans have seriously abandoned all common sense and decency.

I'm sure police had clear orders.

Milroy didn't comply. There had to be a better way for him to conduct himself than just disregard what the police had to say.

It doesn't matter that you think the order "should have applied only to the protestors, not to those who work there."

That's irrelevant.

I agree with Athena. Good grief, let the guy go to his office. Union Bosses? Socialist Agitators? Gov Walker & his ilk, at the very least, want to hurt Public Schools (he thinks they could be run better, privately? - look at his frickin' budget - taking money from public schools to give it to the voucher system - How does that help poor kids who need a good Public School?)) & he wants to hurt Unions so much that they don't have a voice.. At the very most he wants to destroy the Democratic Party, to gain favor with his Republican bosses... For what reason? And why is he sucking up to the Koch brothers? You keep it up Nick... My prayers are with you... Fran in Michigan

Didn't comply? He tried telling them who he was and before he could take out the ID the threw him to the ground. Walker and his idiot followers are insane. This will destroy WI in the near future. Walker is having Sen. arrested for standing up for the people that put them in office? What's next? This is insane.

Yeah, right.

Milroy was cooperating completely but the police/union members just tackled him anyway.

When I visit Wisconsin, do I just pack my sleeping bag and go to the legislature building? According to building security, all IDs were disabled because somebody was letting people in after hours. Security had orders to secure the building. Though Kilroy apologized to the police for just doing their jobs, he blamed authority. This is not a genuine apology. He should just admit what he's responsible for and come up with a solution. That's what leaders are paid to do -- solve problems.

"He works there" they say. Security also works there. Was a change of clothes worth it I must ask? Kilroy lost his cool and he admits it. He pushed through the door and through the officers. Look at the video, stop the emotions, and think rationally. Is this what I do to a police officer when he asks for my driver's license on my own property? I just push him out of my way and go in my house. I don't think so. What's the hurry? I may feel I'm right, but does that justify a total lack of respect for law enforcement?
