Brett Favre Interview: Aaron Rodgers

Brett Favre continues to alienate Packer fans and tarnish his legacy in Green Bay.

In an interview on 790 The Zone in Atlanta, Favre talked about Aaron Rodgers leading the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl Championship.

Listen to Favre with Mike & Hans on 790 The Zone in Atlanta.

Doesn't Favre realize that every time he says crap like this he becomes less of a hero in the Packers' storied history?

It's so self-destructive.

He was a legend, but the bitterness he harbors for the Packers makes it very difficult to think highly of him, not only as a football player but as a man.

Favre continues to trash his Green Bay legacy. Not smart.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

What you want from the former star, when he talks about the current star of your team, is generosity, grace, clarity and genuine admiration.

What you get from Brett Favre, when he talked about Aaron Rodgers during a radio on Tuesday, is a dash of generosity, a dearth of grace, an absence of clarity and an admiration couched in backhanded compliments.

Talk about a passive-aggressive expression of praise for your successor.

In the interview the former Packers quarterback did with a radio station in Atlanta, WQXI-AM (790), Favre was asked what his thoughts were as he watched Rodgers and the Packers during their championship run last season.

"I’m going to be honest, I was not surprised," Favre said. "The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn’t do it sooner."

Sooner? Sooner than what? Sooner than Rodgers’ third season as a starter?

..."Aaron had a chance . . . even though the last couple years it’s seemed like he’s almost a rookie, he’s been around awhile," Favre said. "And I’d like to think that he watched, he learned, and then when he got a chance to play, he brought in his ability which is obviously very good or they wouldn’t have drafted him in the first round. He’s got tremendous talent, he’s very bright and he got a chance to watch and see successful teams do it right. And so he just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he’s a good player. I don’t think anyone would question now the talent around him is even better than when I was there. So I’m really kind of surprised it took him so long. Really, the early part of last year season, it hadn’t quite clicked yet and I didn’t know if it would. I just kind of figured when they hit their stride, they’re going to be hard to beat. And that’s what happened."

Been around awhile. Fell into a good situation. Really kind of surprised. Hadn’t quite clicked.

Now if you consider that genuine praise of your successor and his abilities, then you think Lady Gaga needs to make more flamboyant clothing choices for her concerts.

And, oh yes.

Favre just got done saying the 2007 team was the most talented he ever played on. But now the 2010 or ’11 Rodgers’ teams have more talent than when he was there? Which is it?

Bart Starr was unflagging and unambiguous in his praise of Favre when No. 4 was behind center in Green Bay.

Favre apparently has not yet located the same kind of generosity when talking about Rodgers.

Favre is no Bart Starr, not even close.

It's too bad that Favre is so small.

I think Aaron Rodgers could be in Starr's league.

So far in his career, Rodgers has displayed tremendous talent on the field, accomplishing things Favre never did, not to mention any other player in the history of the NFL.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers became the first player in NFL history with at least 400 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing TDs in a game.

Fantastic!

In addition to his incredible performance as a quarterback, Rodgers has displayed tremendous character and decency and class off the field.

The same cannot be said of Favre, particularly when it comes to the way he speaks of Rodgers and his former team. Favre is very good at disgracing himself, one of the greats.

If Favre doesn't care about his legacy as a Packer, why should we?

Maybe Favre is so into himself that he sincerely doesn't realize what a jerk he's being when he's being a jerk. Not too bright.

Favre is no Bart Starr. He's no Aaron Rodgers. Favre needs to watch and learn.

I think you are right on. Sometimes the bitterness might be too much, or the ego too big(or fragile) to allow someone to see how their comments could be taken by others. Over the last several years, I lost pretty much all respect for him as a person- the Jets/texting scandal and anti-Pack comments are just the exclamation point.

The saddest thing is to think about the legacy he has lost due to his behavior. Up until 2 years ago, I thought he could regain all that was lost. Now, not so much. You're right - he'll never be up there with Bart Starr.

Favre has screwed up so royally I think it will take a long time for Packer fans to welcome him back.

This is a new era. Who needs Favre?

Starr and his teammates and players throughout the years were proud to have been Packers. They identified themselves as Packers.

Favre could have played for other teams without trashing the Pack. He chose to dump on the team.

That's not how Packer legends behave.
