Protest: Scott Walker's Wauwatosa Home

UPDATE: Protesters gathering to walk through Walker's neighborhood

More than 1,000 people at a Recall Walker rally are walking past Gov. Scott Walker's Wauwatosa home in a largely quiet protest.

A significant police contingent is assembled at the Walker home.

Organizers of the rally say the protest through his neighborhood is symbolic, and shows that his neighborhood is as divided by his actions as the state has been. They are saying they are not planning to stop at his house or have anyone chanting with a bullhorn, though a single person singing into a bullhorn could be heard. Organizers say neighbors of Walker who support the recall effort are allowing people to use their driveways if they want to stop and protest. No police present is apparent yet.

One protester is carrying a sign that says, "Occupy Walker's Street" in all capital letters. "Recall Walker" T-shirts and sweatshirts are on sale, and people are circulating recall petitions on clipboards.

Earlier in the day, speaking to Charlie Sykes of WTMJ-Am (620), Walker said targeting his house was out of line.

"It's a total disregard for people's families and others here. . . . I think it's crossing the line," the Republican governor said.

How horrible that a "significant police contingent" is necessary to protect Scott Walker's home!

His children live there.

What is the mob capable of doing? How far will the protesters go?

That's not what democracy looks like. It's what radicalism looks like.

So many of the Recall Walker signs include fists.

A closed fist is not a peaceful image. It suggests force and violence.

I hope the Recall Walker Occupiers don't defecate on the street like their fellow Occupy protesters. I hope there aren't rapes and murders. I hope they don't wish the country suffers 911 attacks like 9/11.

Why would the "Occupy Walker's Street" people want to be associated with such vile protesters as those occupying cities around the country?

It doesn't seem like a good way to appeal to the good people of Wisconsin.

The Recall Walker protesters are either extremely clueless or extremely radical.

Either way, they're extremists.

More Info
Scott Walker unleashed an outrageous & extraordinary assault on Wisconsin values in traditions when he took office as Governor.

Savage attacks on workers' rights along with draconian cuts to public education and healthcare to do the bidding of billionaire plutocrats and corporate special interests. Unprecedented power grabs and erosion of democracy matched with a little bit of corruption. Wisconsin rejects the Walker record and the Walker agenda. Wisconsin cannot afford a full term of Walker's outrageous and extraordinary assault on our state.

Wisconsin needs to recall Scott Walker, starting now.

We Are Milwaukee, an alliance of community-based organizations, unions, faith communities, and local leaders, will kick off our work on the Walker recall on November 15th with a rally and march.

We are gathering at the practice field by Juneau High School for a brief program before marching over 4 blocks to Walker's neighborhood. There, we will line up to sign recall petitions and sign up to play a role on the campaign. Actually, we'll be signing petitions in the front yard of Walker's own neighbors who have volunteered their space to help us start off the recall right. Also, we will provide training to activists and opportunities to activate right away.

Park on the streets around Juneau High School or at State Fair Park, from which buses will run from 3:45 PM to 7:00 PM.

"Give me your Leftist boors, your thugs, Your union masses yearning to force hard-working taxpayers to provide for them to live for free.

"See you in Scott Walker's front yard!"

Scott Walker's FRONT YARD!

This is way, WAY over the line.

Check out the Facebook page to see who will be at the event, hanging out and chanting and being obnoxious in Walker's Wauwatosa FRONT YARD.

MacIver News Service reports:

Tosa Police Vow to Enforce City Ordinances During Union Protest in Residential Neighborhood

Protesters planning on marching to and picketing outside Governor Scott Walker’s home in Wauwatosa are getting the green light from local officials, but should be prepared to adhere to municipal ordinances.

We Are Milwaukee is planning to publicize the effort to recall Walker and will meet at Juneau High School in Milwaukee and then march four blocks to the Governor’s Wauwatosa house. They have announced plans to circulate recall petitions while sitting in Walker’s neighbor’s front yards, who have agreed to help. The group describes itself as an alliance of community-based organizations, unions, faith communities, and local leaders. According to the group’s Facebook page, hundreds of individuals have signalled their intent to participate in the march and rally.

The Milwaukee Public Schools administration issued a permit allowing the protesters to use the grounds around Juneau High School, where they will be meeting. The contact listed on the permit request is Bruce Colburn of the AFL-CIO.

The Wauwatosa Police Department decided the protest does not require a permit.

“There are no plans to block any streets off,” said Lt. Gerald Witkowski, Wauwatosa Police Department. “There is a contingency to do that if the crowd is especially large or if there’s any safety concerns.”

There are several City of Wauwatosa ordinances that could apply to the protesters. These include: right-of-way forfeited when jay walking (11.20.040), when walking on the road pedestrians need to walk on the left side and move out of the way of vehicles (11.20.60), and standing or loitering on roadway is prohibited (11.20.090). There is also an ordinance prohibiting use of electronic or mechanical devices to “disturb the comfort, quiet, or repose of persons therein or in the vicinity (7.48.030). Car horns are also held to this standard (7.48.040).

Captain Jeff Sutter of the Wauwatosa Police Department said that they will be enforcing these ordinances, but would not go into details.

I expect the Wauwatosa Police Department to enforce the law and maintain order.

Their integrity will be tested and we'll be watching.

Reading your opinion comments make me wonder if you understand the reality of what is occurring out here? The Occupy Movement is not an extremist movement, nor is the Recall Walker organized movement. It is a LARGE amount of people who are trying their best to do what they can, and with the gap between the wealthy and everyone else getting larger by the millisecond, it is becoming impossible to do. Thanks to our corrupt and poorly prioritized government. This is a democracy, stating it is the people's right and responsibility to let their government know what they want and need. And these movements are the result of government officials ignoring those they work for.
