Congratulations, Badgers!
You just won the first ever Big Ten Championship game!
What are you going to do now?
You're going to the Rose Bowl!
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Wisconsin and Michigan State gave Big Ten fans and the nation a sequel that not only matched but surpassed the teams' regular-season meeting.
Trailing by eight points late in the third quarter Saturday night, UW rallied behind the poise and playmaking ability of senior quarterback Russell Wilson.
Wilson guided three touchdown drives in the final 24-plus minutes to rally UW to an improbable 42-39 victory over the Spartans in the Big Ten championship game in front of a crowd of 64,152 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"A lot's at stake," Wilson, who was named the game MVP, said before the game. "You know, you're playing for the first-ever Big Ten championship. You know, 100 years from now, people are going to look back and say Wisconsin, Michigan State, who won? And I think that's something that is truly important.
"I think, also, you're playing for yourself. You're playing for your teammates. You're playing for your fans and your school, and then you have the opportunity to go to the Rose Bowl. There's not too many opportunities to do that in a lifetime."
UW (11-2) won its second consecutive Big Ten title, a feat accomplished just twice before in program history (1896-'97 and 1998-'99) to secure a berth in the Rose Bowl.
2011 has been a great year for sports fans in Wisconsin.
Go, Badgers!
