Matt Flynn: Packers Win

The Detroit Lions were losers on Sunday. They acted like losers throughout the game, even before they actually lost to the Packers.

From the Green Bay Press-Gazette:

The Green Bay Packers didn’t get everything they hoped for Sunday. But just about.

Coach Mike McCarthy rested key injured players and his most critical starters, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Yet his team, led by a spectacular performance by backup quarterback Matt Flynn, defeated the Detroit Lions 45-41 at Lambeau Field even though the Lions played everyone hoping to improve their playoff seeding.

The Packers’ defensive performance was a different matter, a rerun of much of the season. This time the Packers gave up 575 yards, the most they’ve allowed in McCarthy’s six seasons as coach, against a playoff team that has an up-and-coming quarterback and the game’s best receiver.

But even with the meltdown in pass defense, McCarthy’s team won. The Packers have a first-round playoff bye to recover from a 16-game regular season and the advantage of playing at Lambeau in the divisional round and NFC championship, if they’re still alive.

...Shortly after the inactives were announced, the betting line on the game shot from the Lions being favored by 3½ points — based on the assumption McCarthy eventually would pull key players — to 6½ points when oddsmakers found out Rodgers, Matthews and Woodson wouldn’t suit up.

What nobody anticipated was Flynn following up his credible performance as a starter last year against New England, which Rodgers missed because of a concussion. He turned in a stunning effort on a blustery day when the temperature at game time was 31 degrees with winds at 20 mph and a wind chill of 19.

After a forgettable first possession that ended with a lost fumble on a strip sack, Flynn kept the Packers’ offense chugging all day even without Jennings, the team’s best receiver. His six touchdown passes and 480 passing yards set Packers single-game records. He also put up a passer rating of 136.4 points (31-for-44 with one interception).

Matt Flynn had a spectacular day.

It's been a spectacular season, almost perfect.

The Packers are just three victories away from repeating as Super Bowl champions.

GO PACK!

You hit the nail on the head - the Lions acted like losers. Their head coach Jim Schwartz acted like a pouty toddler in the post game interviews.

i think McCarthy is steady, confident and mature and his team follows his lead. Likewise, the Lions are the embodiment of their coach.

Just remembered a Packer who acts like a punk - #24 Jarrett Bush, D.B. Who talks trash to a receiver after giving up a go ahead touchdown????
