Paul Ryan Goatee

Paul Ryan, dream Republican presidential candidate, is growing a goatee.

U.S. presidents and vice presidents haven't had facial hair adornments for generations.

(Nixon's permanent shadow doesn't count.)

Is Ryan sending a message?

I kind of like it. I just don't understand it.

In recent years, public figures grow facial hair when they go off the deep end. Think Al Gore. Think Conan O'Brien. It's a rebellion of sorts.

A goatee doesn't say, "Think of me as leader of the free world."

It says, "Eat some Swedish pancakes and meatballs."
