Senate rejects mining bill: fox11online.com

Gogebic Taconite (GTAC) has given up.

From WisPolitics:
The state Senate voted Tuesday to reject the latest version of mining legislation, prompting a company that planned a mine in northern Wisocnsin to announce it is pulling the plug on the project.

The Senate voted 17-16 with GOP Sen. Dale Schultz joining all 16 Dems in rejecting the Joint Finance Committee's substitute amendment to the Assembly mining bill. The bill was then referred to the Senate Organization Committee.

Gogebic Taconite President Bill Williams announced hours after the vote that the company was pulling out of Wisconsin.

Statement by Gogebic Taconite, LLC President Bill Williams on State Senate Rejection of Mining Reforms:

Senate rejection of the mining reforms in Assembly Bill 426 sends a clear message that Wisconsin will not welcome iron mining. We get the message. GTAC is ending plans to invest in a Wisconsin mine. We thank the many people who have supported our efforts.

Bottom line: Wisconsin needs jobs, not Democrats in office.
