Eric Hovde, like Mark Neumann, threw his support behind Tommy Thompson when conceding the primary race.
It was the right thing to do.
In his concession speech, after Hovde chided negative campaigners, Hovde said, "I implore all of you to get involved and stay involved."
Next, Hovde said, "This is the end of my political career."
I thought that was an odd declaration, following his imploration to "stay involved."
Why would Hovde, this new face in Wisconsin politics, announce that he's through with politics?
He came out of nowhere and did very well.
After burning through millions of dollars out of his own pocket, I can see why he would reassess his political ambitions for the near future. I just don't understand why he would make such a definitive statement and call it quits.
Does Hovde want to move back out of state?

Boy, I thought this was really strange too. He put a ton of work into making a name for himself and then *poof* just like that he's gone. He has a future in politics if he wants one...maybe he's changed his mind.
Exactly. After making so much progress and winning over so many Wisconsinites, I can't imagine why he would say his political career ends now.
What if Ronald Reagan had said the same thing after his failed 1976 presidential campaign?
