Quick quiz. Shrimp is OK on Fridays in lent. Yes or no.

So the rules in Leviticus are no longer enforced?

According to my parish priest, shrimp is acceptable.

My parish offers shrimp at our Friday Lenten fish fry, as do parishes across the country.

As far as I know, the Church's rules for Lenten fasting and abstinence are not spelled out in Leviticus.

Who told you shrimp is off limits during Lent for Catholics?

Are you Catholic?

According to Leviticus, shrimp should be off the menu not just for Catholics during lent, but for all Jews, Christians and Muslims every day of the year, for it is an abomination. No, I'm not Catholic, though I was raised that way. In fact, I wanted to be a priest until I discovered girls.
