Tom Wolfgram Ad, the Packers and the NFL

Yesterday, when I was on Tom Wolfgram's campaign website, I saw this ad prominently placed on his home page.

Watch Tom Wolfgram's ad for his reelection bid as Ozaukee County Circuit Court judge. It's titled "Seattle."

We all remember that 2012 game from hell.

I didn't watch the ad yesterday and I haven't seen it on TV, but I noticed the image of the Packers and the NFL refs.

Charlie Sykes mentioned the ad on his radio program this morning and tweeted this:

Recall the Russ Feingold ad from his failed U.S. Senate reelection campaign in 2010. He, too, used NFL images. The NFL didn't like it. Read more and watch that ad here.

So Wolfgram, a presiding judge, seems to be dismissing copyright law, unless he received permission from the NFL. That, of course, is highly unlikely. The costs of using NFL images in ads are prohibitive.

Is this yet another fumble by Wolfgram?

Yes, Wolfgram has 18 years of judicial experience but he's doing a lot of things one would expect from someone very inexperienced.

Joe Voiland, Wolfgram's challenger, keeps looking better and better.

CEDARBURG — The NFL won’t take action against Ozaukee County Circuit Court Judge candidate Tom Wolfgram for images of a Green Bay Packers game that he used on a campaign flyer and in a video on his website.

NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy said Thursday the photo of replacement referees officiating the now infamous game between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks last season "came from a newspaper."

The incumbent judge used the ad to say that, "this is no place for inexperienced judges" in comparing the judicial race with game officiating. The Packers lost the controversial Sept. 24 game against the Seahawks because of what many people believe was a blown call by substitute officials. Wolfgram is facing attorney Joe Voiland in the Tuesday election.
