Obama wants $500 million to implement his newfound strategy to destroy ISIS, formerly known as the "JV team."
From the Wall Street Journal:
Defense officials said work on a training program for moderate Syrian rebels would begin as soon as Congress approved the $500 million the Obama administration has requested. But officials warned even once the money was approved, it would take several months for the program to begin in earnest. That's a big problem.
The training, officials said, is being planned for a facility in Saudi Arabia that could accommodate up to 10,000 fighters. But U.S. officials said the number trained would likely be lower, around 5,000 in the first months of the program.
Officials said finding enough moderate rebels to train—fighters who won't join the Islamic State—is a problem that the U.S. and its allies must work through.
"The most important thing is you need a vetting process you need to know who you are working with," Adm. Kirby said.
That's a very serious concern.
Do we have a "vetting process" strategy?
I get the feeling Obama and Co. didn't put a lot of thought into their plan of action.
