He's now a suspect.

From ABC News:
"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett has been charged with felony disorderly conduct for filing a false report after allegedly staging the attack against himself in Chicago, police and the state attorney's office confirmed to ABC News.Oh yes, by all means treat Jussie Smollett "peacefully and respectfully," the poor guy!
The charge of felony disorderly conduct carries a penalty of one to three years in jail, according to the criminal statute.
"Detectives will make contact with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest," Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said on Twitter.
Thus far, "they have no communication from him to do that," Guglielmi told ABC News.
While police are not actively looking for Smollett because "this is not a violent crime," he said, "the longer this goes, the more we have to do what we have to do" and "then we have to take a different approach."
"We want to do this as peacefully and respectfully as possible," Guglielmi added.
Smollett is either a very bad person or a very ill person.
He's really messed up. A happy, healthy person wouldn't do what it appears he did.
It looks like Smollett staged a hoax that painted Trump supporters as violent racists, wasting the resources of the Chicago Police Department. He claimed his attackers hurled racial and homophobic slurs as they poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck.
I hope Smollet enjoyed his two weeks of playing a victim because it's all over now.
