On June 12, 1987, President Ronald Reagan called on Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall.
Two years after Reagan delivered his speech at the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall did fall.
Here's the entire speech:
Twenty-eight years ago today, on November 9, 1989, it happened.
We won the Cold War.
We won.
Freedom.
The Berlin Wall crumbled.
The Soviet Union crumbled.
The Eastern Bloc crumbled.
That's what happened. We were right to declare victory because, oh, I don't know, maybe because WE WON.
Although some people fantasize about the glory of a communist society, many Americans, and people around the world, don't share the desire to subject individuals to a massive and oppressive centralized government. We believe in freedom.
Enemies of freedom eventually lose.
Leftists tend not to be good losers.
