On Saturday night, social media outlets were filled with complaints about Mayor Tom Barrett's 9 PM curfew in Milwaukee.
Why was a curfew necessary?

People had all day and much of the evening to protest.
The curfew doesn't silence them. It needed to be put in place because of the violence, looting, and shooting of a Milwaukee police officer the previous night. It was an appropriate response. It is meant to protect citizens and property.
Violence, arson, and theft are not effective ways to protest. The cause the protesters allegedly care about gets lost with that lawless behavior.
A curfew assists authorities in their effort to maintain order.
It was clearly necessary to keep the city and its citizens safe.
