Kamala Harris 'Not Doing the Border'

Breitbart reported on Friday that White House chief spokeswoman Symone Sanders told reporters on a flight that "the vice president is not doing the border."
"The president asked the vice president to take on the diplomatic effort, with Mexico and countries in the northern triangle to address the root causes of migration,” Sanders said, according to Breitbart.

This is a change.
Like Vice President Mike Pence took on the role of overseeing the Coronavirus Task Force, I thought Harris would focus her energy on the crisis Biden and the Democrats created at the border.
Apparently, that is not the case. Was it ever the case?
Is it possible that the border disaster is so massive and so out of control, the Democrats determined it would be better not to sully Harris with an assignment she would be certain to fail?
