The legendary actor tells TMZ ... "There seems to be some controversy about my not mentioning every film by name last night before announcing the Best Picture award. I just want to be clear it was not my intention to omit them, rather a choice by the producers not to have them said again since they were highlighted individually throughout the ceremony."
He adds, "I was honored to be a part of the evening and chose to follow the way they wished for this award to be presented."
Al finishes by saying he feels bad for any of the nominees who weren't mentioned before he announced the winner, saying ... "I realize being nominated is a huge milestone in one’s life and to not be fully recognized is offensive and hurtful. I say this as someone who profoundly relates with filmmakers, actors and producers so I deeply empathize with those who have been slighted by this oversight and it’s why I felt it necessary to make this statement."

If true, that the producers didn't want all ten nominees to be read, it's fair for Al Pacino to clarify that he didn't flub the Best Picture award. He shouldn't be taking the blame for the mess. He doesn't deserve to be humiliated for the awkwardness of the moment. He shouldn't be considered demented like Biden.
If the reason was to save time, the producers blew it.
Best Picture nominees are always highlighted throughout the ceremony and always recognized before presenting the Oscar.
It would have taken a lot less time to just read the ten nominees before awarding Best Picture than dealing with the fallout from failing to mention the movies.

Glazer received loud applause and cheers from the Hollywood audience for his refutation.
His comments were received more favorably than Mstyslav Chernov's speech on Ukraine.
It seems Hollywood has moved on from Ukraine.

So bizarre. The nominees for Best Picture weren't even read, and there was plenty of time.
If the show had been running really late, I guess I could understand failing to acknowledge the nominees before announcing the winner. That obviously was not the case.

The "In Memoriam" tribute of the Oscars should focus on the departed, not the live performers accompanying the production.
It's a mistake to draw attention to singers and dancers rather than those being recognized. When names and faces are difficult to see, what's the point?
