SNL Thursday October 16

I was under the impression that Barack Obama was buying a half hour of prime time TV on all the networks at the end of October.

Turns out, Obama had half an hour of prime time TV on NBC tonight, but I don't think he had to pay for it.

SNL's Weekend Update Thursday started off with a debate skit. John McCain was depicted as a complete loon.

Video.

Darrell Hammond as McCain kept talking about Joe the Plumber, his imaginary friend who lives in a cigar box under his bed with their friend Simon, a unicorn.

Fred Armisen as Barack Obama said that people at McCain's running mate's rallies were saying things like "traitor," "kill him," and "off with his head." Obama charged McCain with failing to repudiate those comments.

That really ticked me off because McCain has been very vocal about repudiating such remarks. During a town hall meeting, McCain told supporters that Obama is the sort of man they "do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."

When has Obama said anything remotely like that?

McCain is getting a really raw deal.

The jokes dramatically distort the truth. The truth is not being used as a springboard for the humor. The jokes are grounded in lies.

Nothing in the entire half hour mocked Obama. Even laugh a minute Joe "J-O-B-S" Biden was untouched.

Saturday Night Live gave Obama a free half hour of prime time TV.

No balance on this Thursday. None.

On a related note:

A study shows the Kings of Late Night are not equal-opportunity destroyers this year when it comes to telling jokes about the candidates for president and vice president -- they're hammering Republicans a stunning seven times more often than they skewer Democrats.

The Center for Media and Public Affairs, a media analysis group, kept a tally of jokes told about the presidential contenders on the "Late Show" and "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" in the five weeks after McCain chose Sarah Palin to be his running mate and vaulted the little-known Alaska governor into the national spotlight.

The total: Republicans, 286. Democrats, 42.

"Generally the Republicans get targeted much more often than Democrats, but this election is driving it off the charts," said CMPA Executive Director Donald Rieck.

Talk about a raw deal! Even more bad publicity for Senator McCain: it seems that the finance chairman of the Florida Republican Party and a major fund-raiser for Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign is now under US House investigation for making tens of millions of dollars in profits over the last four years because his contracting company vastly overcharged for deliveries of fuel to American air bases in Iraq.

McCain can't catch a break. Fact and fiction are now ganging up on him. Shew!

Wow. Did you think up that rebuttal all by yourself? Or did your mommy help? And isn't it past your bed time?
