Tim Mahoney - Sex, Lies, and Audiotape

UPDATE, October 15, 2008: DEMOCRAT Tim Mahoney, affair #2
_____________

Tim Mahoney is a hypocrite. He's an adulterer. He's a liar. He's a Democrat congressman.

From the New York Times:

The Florida congressman who succeeded Mark Foley after he resigned because of a sex scandal is now embroiled in a sex scandal of his own, and has requested a Congressional ethics investigation to clear his name.

The congressman, Tim Mahoney, a Democrat, agreed to a $121,000 settlement with a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, two Democratic staff members who have been briefed on the settlement said.

...Mr. Mahoney was elected two years ago after the resignation of Representative Foley, a Republican, whose lewd Internet messages to Congressional pages created a national outrage.

NOTE: Foley Probe Ends With No Charges

The New York Times just happened to leave out that little detail in its report. Mark Foley was forced to resign, but the probe ended with NO charges. This was a creepy e-mail scandal, not a sex scandal.

With Mahoney, there's sex, lies, and audiotape.
Without denying the accusations or explaining how he might benefit from an ethics investigation, Mr. Mahoney said the truth would vindicate him.

“While these allegations are based on hearsay, I believe that my constituents need a full accounting,” Mr. Mahoney said in a written statement. “As such, I have requested the House Ethics Committee to review these allegations.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi also called Monday for a House ethics inquiry.

The money, which did not come from campaign funds, was paid as part of a severance package to the aide, Patricia Allen, after she was fired, a spokeswoman for Mr. Mahoney said.

Mr. Mahoney’s wife was aware of the affair and the legal agreement involving Ms. Allen’s dismissal, two Democratic staff members said.

That agreement included a $61,000 severance payment, a $60,000 payment for legal fees and an agreement by Ms. Allen not to join any other campaign for at least a year, the staff members said. They said the agreement also involved a promise to Ms. Allen of a job at Fletcher Rowley Chao Riddle, a Nashville firm that handled Mr. Mahoney’s advertising.

On Monday, the company said that it was severing all ties with Mr. Mahoney’s campaign and that it had no knowledge of the promises to Ms. Allen for employment.

This reads like a press release from the office of West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney (DEMOCRAT-FL).

Mahoney wants to clear his name. HE'S INNOCENT!

Mahoney's wife was aware of Mahoney's affair. What an honest man!

Mrs. Mahoney knew about the "legal agreement."

Some say, "legal agreement." I say, "hush money."

And the mistress, Patricia Allen, was promised a job, though that appears to be in jeopardy.

Listen to Mahoney explain things to his mistress.

Transcript excerpts

TIM MAHONEY: You're fired... This is not a negotiation. OK? You're not in a position to negotiate with me on this, OK? It's my decision, OK? You work at my pleasure.

...

MAHONEY: Guess what? The only person that matters is, guess who? Me.

...

MAHONEY: You're fired. I don't want to talk about it anymore. I'm not negotiating with you anymore. You're done.

...

MAHONEY: And let me tell you something else -- If I find out that you say anything else, you won't get your last paycheck.
PATRICIA ALLEN: Like what? What do you think I'm going to say?

MAHONEY: I don't give a sh*t, OK? But if you say anything, you won't get your last paycheck.

...

MAHONEY: You keep calling me. You don't understand me, OK? You keep pissing me off because every time I get you on the phone you keep telling me I'm wrong... OK, Guess what? You don't have a job. OK? You're right, and you don't have a job. Guess what? How does that make you feel?

Wow.

You know, sometimes, relationships don't work out. People drift apart. It happens. I wonder how Mrs. Mahoney feels about Tim's failed relationship. Does she really understand? Does she feel her husband's pain? Poor guy.

ABC reported Allen tried to break off the affair after learning Mahoney was supposedly cheating on her and his wife with other women. In response, he threatened her job, ABC reported.

Mahoney has a lot on his plate. It appears he overextended himself.

This matter goes beyond Mahoney and the women. Rep. Rahm Emanuel was in the loop on Mahoney's affair.

In 2007, rumors began spreading on Capitol Hill that Mr. Mahoney was having an affair. Representative Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, one of several senior Democrats who heard the rumors, approached Mr. Mahoney to discuss the matter.

“Congressman Emanuel confronted Congressman Mahoney, told him he was in public life and had a responsibility to act accordingly and appropriately, and urged him to do so,” said Sarah Feinberg, a spokeswoman for Mr. Emanuel. “They had no further conversations on this topic.”

Will the mainstream media obsess over DEMOCRAT Mahoney's sex scandal?

Will the stench of corruption hang over DEMOCRAT Emanuel?

Will DEMOCRAT Nancy Pelosi be hurt by her DEMOCRAT colleagues' behavior?

Will this mean disaster for the DEMOCRATS?

The answer is NO to all of the above.

Be careful, the GOP's sarah and john are not morally superior. John was still with his first wife, when he began an adulterous affair with his present wife, Cindy. And while Sarah Palin is against the one commandment, murder-Abortion, she seemingly has chosen not to be against fornication. All politicians are humans. They all error. To compare one human and another is risky! You probably won't even allow this comment, but we've got to discuss this.

Good grief.

What do you mean I "probably won't even allow this comment"?

Have you read any of the other comments left by libs on my blog?

We're all human. We make mistakes. I don't know what you're talking about in terms of Palin and fornication, but I'm not going to delete your comment.

I delete spam and troll droppings.

Anyway, the subject of this post is Mahoney.

The FBI is getting involved.

Mahoney should resign. The Dems would be wise to wash their hands of the scandal as quickly as possible instead of circling the wagons the way they usually do.

Its kind of stupid, that Emanuel be tarnished by this. He heard rumors and told him to act better. thats it. and pelosi didn't even know. there were rumors, not confirmed. any republican in the same spot i'd say the samething. the only time it is necessary to come forward is if it is with children.

This isn't just about an affair.

The FBI is investigating.
