DEMOCRAT Tim Mahoney Update: Affair #2

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —- A married congressman who faces accusations that he had an affair with a former aide and paid her to keep quiet about it also was having an affair with a second woman around the same time, a person close to his campaign told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Details of the second affair came hours after Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney held a news conference to address a story, first reported by ABC News, that he had been involved with the former aide. Mahoney acknowledged he had caused "embarrassment and heartache" to his family but denied doing anything illegal.

...On Tuesday night, a person close to the Mahoney campaign told the AP that Mahoney also was having a relationship with a high-ranking official in Martin County in his Florida district around the same time of the purported affair with Allen.

The person close to the campaign spoke only on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to openly discuss Mahoney's private life.

The person said Mahoney was having the relationship with the official in 2007 while he also was lobbying the Federal Emergency Management Agency for a $3.4 million reimbursement for Martin County for damage caused by hurricanes in 2004. FEMA approved the money late last year.

Mahoney's congressional staff declined to comment on this alleged tryst, but noted Mahoney lobbies for FEMA funding throughout his district, and that Martin County has received $43 million from FEMA since 2004. Mahoney didn't take office until 2006.

Meanwhile, a high-level Democratic operative who has been involved with the Mahoney campaign told the AP Tuesday night that the FBI has begun reaching out to attorneys involved in the initial reported affair and accusations that he paid the woman to keep quiet. The person declined to be identified because of the FBI's involvement.

This guy is a real piece of work.

I wonder if DEMOCRATS Rahm Emanuel and Nancy Pelosi knew about this second affair.

I love how its DEMOCRAT had an affair, not a man had one. When a republican has an affair such as JOhn McCain I do not believe that all republicans are having affairs.

I don't say that ALL Dems had an affair. Where did you get that?

My point in highlighting the fact that Mahoney is a DEMOCRAT and had at least two affairs, and the FBI is investigating the possibility of hush money payments in the one with Patricia Allen, is to draw attention to media bias.

If Mahoney were a Republican, news of this scandal, less than 3 weeks before the election, would be everywhere.

That's what the Dems and their lib media accomplices did with Mark Foley.

It's not happening with Mahoney.

It's news when the FBI is investigating the possibility that Mahoney paid Allen "$121,000 to keep her from going public and filing suit after she was fired."

Paying someone not to file a lawsuit is pretty much standard practice, not just in politics but in every field. We always settle a case. less than 5% of my cases go to trial, and of those only 2% go to verdict because people always settle. We only File on 0% of cases, or less than 100 a year.

Here comes the FBI:

Anybody really think this bozo has $121,000 just laying around to spend paying of some bimbo?

Mary,

Interesting how you do not see moral inequivalences between affairs of adults and congressman hosting and pursuing page boys.

Can you agree that the degree of predatorship is quite different?

feodor,

Interesting how you put words in my mouth.

When did I say an affair between two consenting adults is equivalent to an adult pursuing a minor?

Please quote me.

The sexual exploitation of children is morally reprehensible. I am not an apologist for Foley. Remember that Foley never had physical contact with any of the pages. All charges against Foley were dropped.

That said, in regard to Mahoney, my issue is the lib media are barely mentioning the story, even given the FBI investigation. It's not the sex. It's the cover-up.

Did you listen to the audiotape?

This isn't your average out of court settlement.

Mary,

Clearly you are not able to get the implications of your own thoughts. Perhaps they are not that thought through. You do not distinguish between adult affairs and preying on the young in the following quote:

"If Mahoney were a Republican, news of this scandal, less than 3 weeks before the election, would be everywhere.
That's what the Dems and their lib media accomplices did with Mark Foley.
It's not happening with Mahoney."

The reason the national press treats such things differently is because of the different moral degrees of wrong and the subsequent difference in public interest which the press serves. Basic journalistic foundations, Mary.

Still, if not seeing a difference gets you a complaining leg up, I am sure you will not see it.

Enough, "feodor."

You're a troll. You're spamming my blog.

Uh, newsflash "feodor":

Foley sent a silly email to one page while a bit tipsy. He didn't exactly pursue anyone and wasn't charged with anything, since being a dumbass isn't illegal (or you'd be posting from prison).

Slight difference between that, and running an entire campaign around family values (since Mahonney and Foley were pretty close on issues, and Florida 16th is one of the most conservative districts in the state, Mahonney couldn't run as a typical Democrat. Especially since he was a lifelong Republican who switched parties to run.) All the while having multiple affairs concurrently.

So, just to clarify things:

Mahonney ran an entire campaign around nothing more than a platform of "family values", while at the same time having at least one affair and pursuing numerous other women (the guy defines lech).

No comparison between being a lecherous sleaze bag and having poor judgment in sending an email.

Must be why the guy has all but folded up his campaign (polls have Tom Rooney up by over 20).
