TMJ4 "Dirty Dining" Still Spares Brookfield Perkins

If it's Thursday, it's "Dirty Dining" on TMJ4.

And once again, Courtny Gerrish's target was a small family-owned restaurant.

As usual, all the unappetizing violations were detailed. And as usual, the story was posted on the TMJ4 website's "Dirty Dining" page on the day the story aired.

Yes, all the weekly segments are there, in chronological order, EXCEPT for the December 11, 2008, story about the Brookfield Perkins.

The web page is updated regularly, but the TMJ4 news assignment desk just can't seem to get that Brookfield Perkins back on line.

What a shock!

Here it is:

This is Google's cache of http://www.todaystmj4.com/features/dirtydinning/36018029.html. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on Dec 12, 2008 05:55:49 GMT.

BROOKFIELD - A family restaurant not keeping food cold enough. Perkins on Barker Road and Bluemound.

An employee was cracking eggs and then touching customer's food, all without changing gloves. A cross contamination risk. When we stopped by the manager wasn't talking. "You don't want to comment?" "Not really."

Inspectors had issues with food temperature. Meatloaf and sausage were at 45 degrees. Rice was kept at 47 degrees. The safe cold temperature is 41. Also, inspectors found a cooler as warm as 47 degrees, and Hash browns were sitting out at room temperature.

Children's drink cups used as scoops, sitting in food. Perkins was ordered to use a scoop with a handle, so employees don't put their hands in the food. Also, there were open bags of flour stored on the floor. Dry goods must be sealed in a container and kept off the floor.

The manager did tell us Perkins was cleaning things up.

Of course, e-mails to TMJ4 and Journal Broadcast Group personnel regarding the matter of the dirty details of the Perkins in Brookfield are still unanswered.

Brenda Serio, Courtny Gerrish, and Steve Wexler aren't talking. They are very unresponsive to viewer feedback, questions and comments. Not good.

My last e-mails to them on the Perkins matter were sent on January 26, 2009. Of course, there were no replies. I don't intend to follow-up because it's pointless.

Legitimate and respectful inquiries are ignored.

In spite of being told by Serio on January 5, 2009, that the story was in the process of being returned to its spot on the "Dirty Dining" web page, TMJ4's site remains scrubbed of the Perkins segment.

That was a crock. Nothing is going to change. They have their reasons for sparing Perkins.

I really was genuinely surprised and sincerely disappointed. I had way too much respect for the station, its personnel, their standards and professionalism. I was so wrong about TMJ4.
