Feingold: Internal Poll, Dead Heat

TMJ4 continues to serve as a "willing partner" for the Democrats.

On its 10:00 PM newscast on Monday, TMJ4 ran a story trying to debunk Russ Feingold's dismal poll numbers.

The story: Feingold says the Senate race in Wisconsin is a dead heat.

Speaking to a group of supporters, Democratic Senator Russ Feingold claimed an internal campaign poll shows he is even with Republican candidate Ron Johnson in the race for U.S. Senate.

"That is a measure of likely voters," Feingold said of the poll results. When looking specifically at young voters, Feingold said he is ahead "25 or 30 points."

Those polling results are a contrast to several other publicly released polls which show Johnson with a significant lead over Feingold.

Feingold isn't satisfied with claiming that his internal polling shows that the race is "dead even."

Here's Feingold's quote about the race being a dead heat, as aired on TMJ4 last night:

RUSS FEINGOLD: That is a measure of likely voters. And when we look at a measure that's higher than that, we are 25 or 30 points ahead.

Although the TMJ4 website refers to "young voters" in its written account, the story as it ran on the 10:00 PM newscast left that out.

With all due respect, Feingold sounds like an idiot suggesting that he's 25 or 30 points ahead when they look at "a measure that's higher than that."

What is he talking about? Is his higher measure one that includes unicorns?

Who does Feingold's internal polling?

Not a single poll of likely voters that I've seen has Feingold's race against Ron Johnson within the margin of error.

For him to say that he's really 25 or 30 points ahead of Johnson is nuts.

What is TMJ4 doing airing Feingold's delusion as news?

It's absurd.

Hey! PolitiFact Wisconsin! I think a "Pants on Fire" is in order here.
