Joe Biden, Madison - October 7, 2010

Joe Biden never disappoints.

When he comes to Wisconsin, he says something stupid. It's inevitable.

For instance, when he was here on June 25, 2010, to campaign for Russ Feingold, Biden called Scott Borkin, manager of Kopp's, a "smartass."

Here's the video.

Video.

Knowing Biden would be in Madison to raise money for Tom Barrett, I wondered what gem Biden would deliver this time.

As I said, Biden doesn't disappoint.

Mary Spicuzza, from the Wisconsin State Journal, writes:

Madison has been called a lot of things over the years.

But dull? Really?

That was apparently Vice President Joe Biden's impression of the Madtown crowd on Thursday while he was speaking at a breakfast fundraiser for Democratic candidate for governor.

Biden was talking about how more products need to be made in the United States rather than abroad.

"We want to reward people who manufacture things in the United States, in Wisconsin," he said. "Not to take them overseas to China and to other countries!"

The room sat quiet.

Biden paused.

"You're the dullest audience I've ever spoken to," he said, to laughter and applause.

He added, "Do you realize how many jobs Wisconsin lost? It's staggering!"

Good grief.

"Dullest audience" is an improvement from crassly dissing a hard-working citizen like Borkin. It's certainly less personal than calling an individual a "smartass."

The dull audience thing is kind of funny. It tells me that Biden wasn't exactly generating much enthusiasm among the Democrats in attendance. The bored people at the Tom Barrett fundraiser apparently showed about as much excitement to be there as Barrett has shown in his bid to become governor.

It's pretty bad when Democrat donors are put to sleep by the ramblings of one of their party's top leaders, the vice president.

Maybe they wanted something a bit more bloodthirsty and violent from Biden, like "If I hear one more Republican tell me about balancing the budget, I am going to strangle them."

And yes, Joe, we, the people, realize how messed up Wisconsin and the country is. We know about unemployment and economic hardship.

We also know that more products are not going to be made in the U.S. with the Dems in power.

Cap and trade? Are you kidding me?

As long as the Dems are in charge and the assault on the private sector continues, more jobs will be leaving.

Wait until the Obama administration raises taxes on business owners and punishes success even more. Things will get worse. And the answer isn't more government.

Those Dem donors, the Barrett supporters, may be dull and uninterested; but Scott Walker supporters are charged up and ready to vote to get out of this economic hell.

No Doyle third term.
