Mattasia A. Bowie

Who's Mattasia A. Bowie?

She was a 3-year-old Milwaukee girl. She died over the weekend.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Three people, including a 3-year-old girl, were killed in separate homicides in Milwaukee this weekend, police said Monday.

The killings bring the total number of homicides recorded in the city this year to 72, the same number that occurred in Milwaukee in all of 2009, according to a Journal Sentinel database based on information from the Police Department.

Seventy-one people were killed in Milwaukee in 2008. The 2008 and 2009 homicide totals represent the lowest yearly totals in Milwaukee since 1985, when 70 people were murdered in the city.

...Arrests have been made in connection with one of this weekend's three homicides, a police spokesman said Monday.

The 3-year-old girl, identified by police as Mattasia A. Bowie, died after she was brought to Aurora Sinai Medical Center on Saturday for treatment of head trauma, police Sgt. Mark Stanmeyer said.

The girl's mother, 20, was arrested on suspicion of homicide, according to arrest records. A 21-year-old man identified by Stanmeyer as her boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of child neglect causing death, according to arrest records.

The girl, her mother and the mother's boyfriend lived in the 1600 block of S. 20th St., according to Stanmeyer and arrest records. It is not clear when the girl was injured.

The Milwaukee County district attorney's office will review the case this week, Stanmeyer said.

This is horrible.

How does one kill an innocent 3-year-old?

How could a mother kill her little girl?

What torture did Mattasia endure before her death?

It's too awful to imagine.

_____________

The city of Milwaukee is a mess.

Tom Barrett touted the "Pants on Fire" lie about his record on crime:

"Under Tom Barrett’s leadership, violent crime in Milwaukee has decreased by over 20% -- to its lowest levels in more than 20 years."

Of course, Barrett had to back off that claim.

Barrett's website was changed to read:

"Tom has worked with law enforcement, community groups and residents to develop proactive strategies, and he has empowered the city's police department with the resources and strong leadership it needs to get the job done. As a result, violent crime in Milwaukee has decreased by 20% over the past two years, and homicides are at the lowest levels in more than 20 years."

It's time to update the website, Tom.
