Scott and Jennifer Petkov

UPDATE, October 22, 2010: Jennifer Petkov's Kids Ordered to Live with Father

Sometimes, people use the Internet to taunt and torture others. People, like Jennifer Petkov, commit terrible acts online.

But when a story as heartbreaking as this one receives national attention and goes viral, the Internet can also be the means to connect and provide an outpouring of love and support. Good things do happen via the Internet.

From WJBK:

Her family says 7-year-old Kathleen Edward is in the final stages of a degenerative brain disorder diagnosed as Huntington's Disease - the same disease which killed her mother, Laura, when she was only 24.

Neighbors Jennifer and Scott Petkov, who have been feuding with the family, admitted to posting grim depictions of Laura and Kathleen on Facebook. One photo depicts Laura in the arms of the grim reaper, while the other features Kathleen's face above a set of crossbones.

The couple also have a coffin hitched to a pick-up truck in front of the house, which they say is nothing more than a halloween decoration.

...A member of Kathleen's family says the bad blood started about two-years ago after the two families had a falling out over a birthday party at the Rose house. At the party kids were using a "bounce-house" and playing games in the front yard. The source says that Jennifer Petkov texted someone in the Rose family, asking if her kids could come to the event. A response to the text did not come quickly enough and it angered Jennifer. According to the Rose family, she's been harassing them ever since.

A rally for Kathleen Edward has been planned for Saturday, Oct. 23 from 3 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Haas Park in Trenton. CLICK HERE FOR INFORMATION

The invitation reads: "She has been tormented by sadistic neighbors. Please come and join us in showing Kathleen there are good people that care."

Jennifer and Scott Petkov are unspeakably cruel.

Watch this video. Jennifer Petkov is a monster.

After receiving a lot of negative feedback from people across the nation, Scott and Jennifer Petkov have had a change of heart.

What the couple did to little Kathleen Edward is truly shocking. It's unbelievable that adults would behave so badly, heartlessly taunting this dying little girl.

Their apology is way too little way too late, but at least they are promising to back off and give Kathleen and her family some peace.

No child, no person deserves to be treated the way Jennifer and Scott Petkov treated Kathleen.

Their cruelty has put them in the national spotlight, neighbors from hell. They'll never live down what they've done. They deserve the condemnation they're receiving.

Of course, harassment, threats of physical harm, and death threats by some supporters of Kathleen are totally out of line. Those individuals are just as bad as the Petkovs. However, expressing one's opinion of the couple's actions in a civil manner is perfectly fine. I think remaining silent on the matter would be inappropriate.

It's not OK to do what they did. No decent person can accept their behavior.

What's especially nice is that people have rallied around Kathleen and they will gather to support her on Saturday, October 23. People from around the country are sending good wishes and offers to help the family.

The evil perpetrated by Jennifer and Scott Petkov has been squashed by an uprising of goodness from caring people.

They lost this feud. Goodness won.

God bless Kathleen and her family.

Is this not insane? I labeled them on my Facebook page as the worst excuses for human beings I have seen in years.

"Of course, harassment, threats of physical harm, and death threats by some supporters of Kathleen are totally out of line. Those individuals are just as bad as the Petkovs."

I agree they are out of line, but don't even come CLOSE to the actions of the Petkovs. They preyed on a completely innocent, helpless victim. They cannot claim that title.

"They deserve the condemnation they're receiving."

With the institutional memory of some of the more seedy sites on the internet, not even name and SSN changes will protect these two from a lifetime of harassment.

They are horrible people, the lowest of the low. I can't imagine how they could harbor such hate that they did what they did to a dying little girl. The family had already suffered such a terrible loss. Their harassment is truly evil in my opinon.

That said, it's wrong to make death threats. That's not an appropriate response. There are other ways to express one's outrage.

The best thing to come out of this is the positive reaction, the many expressions of support and concern for innocent little Kathleen.
