SNL: Juan Williams and NPR

During "Weekend Update," the controversy surrounding NPR's firing of Juan Williams was used by Saturday Night Live as an opportunity to slam FOX News and Republicans.

There was absolutely no criticism of the outrageous move by NPR, and Williams' remarks were mischaracterized.

SETH MEYERS: FOX News on Thursday hired news analyst Juan Williams just one day after National Public Radio fired him for making disparaging comments about Muslims, marking the first time someone has been fired and hired for the same comment.

SETH MEYERS: Following Williams' firing, several leading Republicans including Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, and Sarah Palin, accused NPR of censorship and called for Congress to cut off federal funding for NPR. So in case you were wondering how much Republicans hate NPR, they're siding with a black guy named Juan.

I think it would have been more appropriate to approach the subject from the angle of how much Leftists hate FOX News.

Did you read this commentary about the situation from Debra Saunders?

"MediaMatters doesn't want balance on Fox News. MediaMatters doesn't want an exchange of ideas. MediaMatters wants to push Fox further to the right. Its toxic tactics are designed to widen the left-right divide in America by marginalizing not only conservatives, but anyone who associates with conservatives.

I've talked to people at CAIR and MediaMatters. I know folks who work for NPR. They all think they're smart, and yet they've just sent a bonehead message to the American public."
