Occupy Milwaukee - North Ave. Bridge (Video)

What an absolutely idiotic stunt!

The Occupiers accomplished NOTHING by closing down the North Ave. bridge over I-43 for a few hours today, other than making it very, very difficult for fellow 99 percenters.

It's ridiculous. These people need to start thinking. Class warfare appeals to the fringe Leftists and the union members.

It doesn't appeal to the rest of us.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Protesters who blocked traffic Thursday and invited arrest declared victory and marched off after Police Chief Edward Flynn said that officers wouldn't help them fulfill their "martyrdom fantasies" and that they could stay "and freeze their butts off."

Hundreds of protesters sat or stood on the North Ave. bridge over Interstate 43 for two hours.

Flynn, speaking to TV cameras as protesters chanted "We are the 99%," said he was withdrawing most of the couple dozen officers who had been watching the protesters "so we can answer 911 calls and protect the community."

The demonstration demanding economic justice coincided with others around the country on the two-month anniversary of the first Occupy Wall Street protests in New York.

Asked about the economic issues in the protest, Flynn told reporters, "If they're angry about the economy, go to Wall Street. There's 35% unemployment in this neighborhood. Who are they disrupting?"

Referring to below-freezing evening temperatures, Flynn said, "They can sit and freeze their butts off, I don't care."

Four people were arrested at the demonstration, according to a police spokeswoman.

Protesters said there were 600 demonstrators at the event's peak, but the number at the end was closer to 100.

Demonstrators said a number of groups were represented on the bridge, including at least two labor unions, Wisconsin Jobs Now, Move On, Occupy Milwaukee, Citizen Action and Voces de la Frontera. Recall Scott Walker signs could also be seen.

A flier promoting the bridge occupation said there is an "economic emergency" because Congress hasn't passed President Barack Obama's jobs bill.

These protesters are union members and radical Leftists.

They're annoying. They aren't doing anything but getting in the way and pissing off the vast majority of the 99 percent.

What good did it do for them to throw a hissy fit on the bridge, chanting and drumming?

It did no good at all. NOT AT ALL. ZERO POINT ZERO ZERO ZERO.

Police resources were wasted. The Occupiers are making things worse for the rest of us, not better.

Here's video, from FOX6 News:

I loved Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn's response to the dorky Occupiers.
CHIEF FLYNN: We're going to direct traffic around here, and we are not going to fulfill the martyrdom fantasies of people who insist on being arrested while they disrupt the lives of this neighborhood.

I didn't like Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's response at all.

Very wimpy and politically expedient.

Barrett said he does support some of the protesters' positions, but he had a little bit of criticism for them.

BARRETT: I don't support people disrupting the streets and people's lives who are really struggling in their own, in their own right....

The police department and the chief have shown the appropriate discretion throughout this and I'm pleased, quite honestly, that we haven't had the incidents that we've seen in other cities around America. And I hope we don't see the incidents. I hope we don't see the violence.

Gee, Barrett is pleased so far. He hopes we don't have riots.

What a great mayor! He hopes we don't see violence. Wow. Citizens of Milwaukee can rest easy knowing that Barrett is busy hoping.

Chief Flynn speaks out after North Avenue bridge protests

Flynn shows more leadership than Barrett. He is clearly ticked off by the idiocy of the Occupiers shutting down the North Ave. bridge at I-43, as he should be.

Barrett, on the other hand, seems detached. I don't see any anger or disgust from him. Barrett should be calling on the protesters to direct their energies in ways that will make a positive difference. He should be telling them to quit doing harm to the city's residents, but he doesn't. This is all political with Barrett. Politics come first with him, not doing the right thing.

Not cool, Tom. Not cool.
