Regan Cowan: NO Charges

Attention Leftists, Democrats, union members, liberal media mouthpieces, and assorted wingnuts:

It is OK to post online that you're in favor of killing Scott Walker and you would participate in his assassination.

Regan Cowan, the woman who posted a Walker death threat online, the woman who has a lengthy record of civil and criminal issues, including pleading guilty to two felonies, won't be charged.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

The Dane County district attorney said Thursday that he would not charge a Facebook poster who earlier this month had discussed killing Walker on a page devoted to recalling the governor.

Meanwhile, a teacher and prominent critic of Gov. Scott Walker said she received a telephone death threat early Thursday against her and her family.

The developments come amid a polarized political climate in Wisconsin in which there have been largely peaceful demonstrations by both sides but also death threats against politicians of both parties and a doubling of the security budget for Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.

In the Facebook poster case, Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne said his office would not charge Regan Cowan. That's because the Facebook post did not appear meant to reach the governor, Ozanne said.

"One of those elements that we have to prove is that (the suspect) reasonably expected that message to be received by the person, who is the governor," Ozanne said.

Oh.

If that's the standard, whether one reasonably expects the message to be received by the subject of the death threat, that must mean it's OK to write all kinds of threats online.

"I assumed (fill-in-the-blank) wouldn't read what I wrote. I didn't think (fill-in-the-blank) would ever learn that I want to kill him/her, so I thought it was OK for me to engage in assassination talk."

That's nuts.

Furthermore, Cowan posted her threat on the We Are Wisconsin Recall Walker Kick Off Rally event page on Facebook. We Are Wisconsin isn't some rinky-dink operation. According to MacIver News Service, it's a "labor union mega PAC that spent more than $18 million on the State Senate recalls earlier this month."

I think it was completely reasonable to assume that Cowan's message would reach Governor Walker.

I think politics is coloring Ismael Ozanne's decisions. He's acting like a Democrat/union stooge.
