George Clooney and Obama Fundraiser

This is not my idea of a pleasant get-together.

An email from Julianna Smoot, Deputy Campaign Manager, Obama for America:

Mary --

Want to meet George Clooney and Barack Obama -- at Clooney's house?

He's hosting supporters at his home next month to help build support for this campaign and elect President Obama in November. And he's saving seats for two grassroots supporters like you and their guests. It's just not a chance most people get -- well, ever.

For a chance to hang out with President Obama at George Clooney's house, donate $3 or whatever you can to be automatically entered to win.

George Clooney is doing his part to help re-elect the President, but he also knows that it's folks like you who will decide this election. That's why we're reserving a few spots for grassroots supporters.

If you donate $3 or whatever you can today, you'll be doing your part to support the campaign, and be automatically entered to join them in Los Angeles.

If you ask me, this is far too good to pass up:

Thanks,

I guess all those "Dinner with Barack" fundraising contests weren't pulling in enough cash.

Team Obama is bringing out one of the big guns - George Clooney to get people to "pony up" $3 for the campaign.

For his 2008 presidential campaign, Obama was demanding that people "pony up" $5.

OBAMA: I want everybody here to pony up $5, $10 for this campaign. I don't care how poor you are, you got $5.

This still really bothers me.

It's so selfish.

"I don't care how poor you are, you got $5."

Here we are in 2012 and Obama is still trying to get people who wouldn't normally make a political donation to part with their money. Instead of convincing people to take a chance on winning the George Clooney lottery, Obama should be encouraging people to spend their money responsibly.

Women supposedly can't afford birth control, but they can afford to waste money on "a chance to hang out with President Obama at George Clooney's house"?

I assume they are targeting women here, thinking Clooney will provide the incentive for them to "pony up" some cash.

Clooney and Obama for $3?

Personally, I think that's a bit steep.

No thanks.

Another email from Team Obama:

Mark your calendar: On May 10th, George Clooney is hosting an event at his home in Los Angeles to support President Obama.

If you donate $3 or whatever you can today, you'll be automatically entered to be there, too.

We'll take care of airfare and accommodations -- all you need to do is think about who you'd ask to join you for an evening with President Obama and George Clooney.

When you pitch in, you'll also help build this grassroots organization at a crucial moment in the campaign.

So donate $3 or whatever you can today:
