Obama's Gay Marriage Evolution

Here's candidate Obama trying to convince Americans to vote for him in 2008:

OBAMA: "I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman."

That was then.

Earlier this week, we were told that Obama was supposedly "evolving."

Apparently, Obama's evolution is suddenly complete.

Yesterday, Obama used the ABC arm of his campaign team to deliver a carefully crafted and timed performance.

On Tuesday, the people of North Carolina voted to amend their state's constitution to ban gay marriage.

During Tuesday’s primary vote, North Carolina’s citizens voted to ban marriage between two members of the same sex by specifying that a legal union or marriage can only be between a man and a woman in the state. The vote to add the amendment to the North Carolina Constitution passed by a wide margin, with around 61% voting for the issue while only around 39% voted against it.

Most political analysts felt the measure would pass, but not by such a wide margin and opponents in recent weeks had hoped for a close vote on Tuesday that simply did not materialize.

There was already a law on the books that prohibited same sex marriages in North Carolina, but the passage of the amendment amends the state constitution, meaning that only a higher court than the North Carolina Supreme Court can change the validity of the amendment in the future. The law will also make it impossible for so-called “civil unions” that can afford some legal rights to gay partners, even if it does not carry the same religious and traditional connotations that being “married” would entail.

North Carolina becomes the 30th state to enact such a “marriage amendment” in the United States.

On the heels of this landslide in North Carolina, and Scott Walker's incredible smackdown of the Democrat/union coalition in Wisconsin's recall primary, the egomaniac Obama wanted to redirect the national spotlight.

Time for what Democrats are touting in emails as Obama's "historic announcement."

Obama himself sent an email to supporters, asking them to join him.

From Barack:

Mary --

Today, I was asked a direct question and gave a direct answer:

I believe that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry.

I hope you'll take a moment to watch the conversation, consider it, and weigh in yourself on behalf of marriage equality:

http://my.barackobama.com/Marriage

I've always believed that gay and lesbian Americans should be treated fairly and equally. I was reluctant to use the term marriage because of the very powerful traditions it evokes. And I thought civil union laws that conferred legal rights upon gay and lesbian couples were a solution.

But over the course of several years I've talked to friends and family about this. I've thought about members of my staff in long-term, committed, same-sex relationships who are raising kids together. Through our efforts to end the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, I've gotten to know some of the gay and lesbian troops who are serving our country with honor and distinction.

What I've come to realize is that for loving, same-sex couples, the denial of marriage equality means that, in their eyes and the eyes of their children, they are still considered less than full citizens.

Even at my own dinner table, when I look at Sasha and Malia, who have friends whose parents are same-sex couples, I know it wouldn't dawn on them that their friends' parents should be treated differently.

So I decided it was time to affirm my personal belief that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry.

I respect the beliefs of others, and the right of religious institutions to act in accordance with their own doctrines. But I believe that in the eyes of the law, all Americans should be treated equally. And where states enact same-sex marriage, no federal act should invalidate them.

If you agree, you can stand up with me here.

Thank you,

Barack

This makes me sick:
"I respect the beliefs of others, and the right of religious institutions to act in accordance with their own doctrines."

What a load of BS!

Obama has attacked the Catholic Church. He deceived Catholic leaders.

Respect the right of religious institutions to act in accordance with their own doctrines???

What a flat-out LIAR!

I really find Obama's remarks reprehensible, given his direct assault on the First Amendment. He's stunningly dishonest.

But back to the alleged "historic announcement"--

Obama's failure to state his belief in gay marriage and his "evolution" shtick were an embarrassment. He's a weak leader, and off the charts selfish.

Obama's "historic announcement" makes his previous denials and dodging and "evolution" vagueness look even more cowardly.

The timing of it makes it appear like he's playing a game, each play calculated for his personal purposes.

After Jay Carney's implosion, it became clear Obama was looking like a fool and the Leftist media weren't going to give him a pass on his gay marriage charade. So, Obama rehearsed his "historic announcement," called in one of his media allies, and did a poor job of pouring out his heart.

His performance was a purely political move.

I think the circumstances of Obama's declaration diminish its significance significantly.

Obama said what we all already knew just to keep from talking about what people really care about - THE ECONOMY.

Funny that Leftists accuse Republicans of focusing on unimportant social issues when Democrats are the ones spending this election cycle yapping about contraception, gay marriage, and a dog on the roof of a car.

This is only about the money. Gay bundlers threatened to withhold campaign contributions if he didn't come out in favor of gay marriage. This also will get the $$$ flowing from Hollywood.

I really believe Obama knows that he doesn't have a chance in the election and will be doing whatever he can to raise as much money as possible during the campaign. He gets to keep whatever he doesn't use. His entire administration has been about gaming the system to put billions into his cronies pockets. I'm sure that his offshore accounts are swelling. It's the Chicago Way.

BTW, Obama never said gays have a "right" to be married and he left the issues of gay marriage to the states. Essentially he said nothing but his constituency is happy and writing checks so all is well.

You're right. Obama was paid for stuttering through his "evolution," but in terms of what has changed - nothing. It's an issue for the states.

Same old, same old.

Obama gave a personal opinion. He revealed a secret all knew.

One more thing - this gives the radicals in the Middle East another reason to hate the USA.
