Obama Farewell Address
It's been a while since I've watched Obama deliver a speech.
I didn't see his speech at the Democrats' convention last summer. I stopped watching his State of the Union addresses years ago. I didn't see his second inaugural address. I tuned out.
But, I decided to watch his farewell address.
Transcript here.
Here's video of the full speech:
That echo was annoying. Strange that the sound was so weird.
In terms of content, naturally, supporters and fans consider the address to be Obama at his best, a soaring triumph.
I consider it to be Obama as usual, making some true and some false claims delivered as truth, both cloaked in flowery phrasing meant to impress. Sure, some of the things he said sounded nice, but there was a disconnect between his words and the truth. Of course, the Leftist utopian rhetoric was out in full force, as were the crowd-pleasing applause triggers that peppered the speech. And, of course, there were those thinly-veiled shots aimed at Trump and Republicans, as well as the statement that prompted the crowd to boo loudly, "In ten days, the world will witness a hallmark of our democracy."
I didn't like the lecturing, especially given the hypocritical nature of his remarks. He can't talk unity when you look at his 8-year record of divisiveness and partisanship. The last time I heard such a load Meryl Streep was lecturing the country during the Golden Globes just a couple of days ago, singling out the rubes, the football and MMA fans.
Obama's yapping about the "retreat into our own bubbles" and complaining about the "selective sorting of the facts" was so disingenuous.
Obama was doing a lot of finger-pointing when he should have been looking in the mirror, and at least acknowledging that he was certainly a major player in stoking the problem.
He complained about "corrosive" political dialogue.
In his own farewell address, George Washington wrote that self-government is the underpinning of our safety, prosperity, and liberty, but “from different causes and from different quarters much pains will be taken... to weaken in your minds the conviction of this truth.”
And so we have to preserve this truth with “jealous anxiety;” that we should reject “the first dawning of every attempt to alienate any portion of our country from the rest or to enfeeble the sacred ties” that make us one.
America, we weaken those ties when we allow our political dialogue to become so corrosive that people of good character aren’t even willing to enter into public service. So course with rancor that Americans with whom we disagree are seen, not just as misguided, but as malevolent. We weaken those ties when we define some of us as more American than others.
Obama has been so corrosive. The things he said while campaigning for Hillary were beyond the pale. Was he admitting that he engaged in weakening those "sacred ties"? No, but he did.
I didn't like Obama's claim that "no foreign terrorist organization has successfully planned and executed an attack on our homeland these past eight years." That statement rests on the definition of "foreign terrorist organization."
While he did go on to acknowledge "Boston and Orlando and San Bernardino and Fort Hood," he diminished the significance of those terrorist attacks by attributing that violence to "dangerous radicalization," as if killing in the name of an ideology requires a "foreign terrorist organization" to order the bloodshed to consider it a successful attack.
Either Obama genuinely doesn't understand terrorism or he is intentionally defining it in a manner that allows him to claim there have been no attacks "on our homeland these past eight years."
Whatever. Why bother picking apart his words? At 11:00 AM CT on January 20, the Obama era ends. It's history. The possibilities for the future, for change and improvement, for better days ahead, excite me.
It was very touching when Obama thanked Michelle and his daughters (Malia was there, but Sasha was not), expressing his pride and appreciation and love. I believed it. He was being sincere. I could relate to him in that moment.
I was reminded that what we share as Americans and human beings is much greater than any of the things that divide us.

Obama Speech
Radical Islam is at war with us.
Will the commander-in-chief please stand up?
We need one.
Agree w/@David_Gergen. Not looking for a father in chief. Looking for a commander in chief. #ObamaSpeech
— Jim Webb (@JimWebbUSA) December 7, 2015The speech was odd. Obama took to the Oval Office to address the nation. I don't remember any other president dragging a podium into the Oval Office for a speech. What was that about? Weird.
We're being told the purpose of the speech was to show Americans he's taking the terrorism threat seriously.
Yeah, well, a brief Sunday night address isn't enough.
Nope.
Mission not accomplished.
This was especially odd:
OBAMA: Even in this political season, even as we properly debate what steps I and future Presidents must take to keep our country safe, let’s make sure we never forget what makes us exceptional.
Aaaaand we are exceptional again. #Really dude? #ObamaSpeech
— Stacy Washington (@StacyOnTheRight) December 7, 2015Exactly.
We're exceptional? I don't think Obama believes that at all.
Then, there was the correction.
The White House corrects Obama’s statement on Visa Waiver Program pic.twitter.com/vvsCzvnE0A
— Zeke Miller (@ZekeJMiller) December 7, 2015From Business Insider:
The White House issued a correction to part of President Barack Obama's during a rare Oval Office address to the nation Sunday evening.
When emailing out the official transcript of his speech, the White House amended the president's comment that Tashfeen Malik, one of the perpetrators of the San Bernardino, California, attack, arrived in the US as part of the US's visa waver program.
Malik actually came to the US last year on a K-1 "fiance visa," officials have said. She was engaged to Syed Farook, the other culprit in Wednesday's shooting, which left 14 dead and wounded more than 20 others. A K-1 visa allows the individual to come to the US and be married within 90 days, making him or her eligible for a green card and putting the individual on the path to eventual citizenship.
The visa-waiver program, which Obama mistakenly referenced, allows foreign individuals to come to the US for 90 days without a visa for travel purposes if they meet certain requirements.
Obama raised the waiver program on Sunday as one of several proposals on which he urged Congress to take action.
Obama and his administration really know how to ease fears and give us confidence that they have everything under control. They can't even get his little address right.

Tashfeen Malik: Terrorist
I've been waiting to see a photo of Tashfeen Malik. clues. pic.twitter.com/oiiKTUDvmI

A graphic like this would have been understandable on Wednesday, shortly after the attack.
Forty-eight hours later, it was not acceptable to withhold her photo. Authorities/Obama administration clearly didn't want it released.
Now, we finally are seeing the face of Tashfeen Malik, an Islamic terrorist.
Late on Friday, the first photo was released to the public.

She doesn't look like a ruthless, cold-blooded killer; but that's what she was.
This is what a terrorist looks like. This is reality.
I'm sure the Islamic terrorism deniers aren't happy with the image. The deniers are confronted with the fact that Malik looks like a refugee we're supposed to be welcoming to the country.
Oh, that's right. We did welcome her. And she killed 14 innocent people and planned to kill many more.
Nice vetting.
I don't trust the Obama administration to keep us safe.

Obama: NO CREDIBLE TERROR THREAT
Remember one week ago, when Obama assured us there was no credible terror threat?
Never mind.
There's a problem when people are afraid they'll be called racist if they report suspicious activity.
This administration and their media lapdogs have created that atmosphere.
Thank you, Leftists. Way to go.

Sources: Syed Rizwan Farook, male shooter in #SanBernardino massacre, was apparently radicalized https://t.co/KL3OFxBKwZ— CNN (@CNN) December 3, 2015For the love of God, call the San Bernardino massacre what it so obviously was: ISLAMIC TERRORISM.
This was not workplace violence.

Syed Farook
The notion that something at work set off Farook and prompted him to travel to Saudi Arabia, build bombs, and carry out the slaughter is ridiculous.
Good grief.

SHARE:Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik: American Dream
Don't call what they did yesterday in San Bernardino terrorism.
Call it workplace violence and mental illness.
As for Farook being a devout Muslim, that's irrelevant in this case. Of course.
And don't focus on the fact that Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik targeted a Christmas party.
From the Los Angeles Times:
As the holiday gathering got underway Wednesday morning, Syed Farook joined dozens of his colleagues from San Bernardino County’s Public Health Department. Farook seemed quiet during the early hours of the event, then vanished just as a group photo was about to be taken.Farook obviously had another side to him that he didn't let his co-workers see.
Shorty afterward, gunfire erupted at the Inland Regional Center where the employees filled a conference room. Within hours, law enforcement sources identified a man named Syed Farook as a suspect in the massacre and said he was shot to death in a gun battle with officers.
...Co-workers told The Times that they were shocked to hear Farook’s name linked to the shooting. Two health department employees who were in the bathroom when the bullets began to fly said Farook was quiet and polite, with no obvious grudges.
They said Farook had traveled to Saudi Arabia and returned with a new wife he met online. The couple had a baby and appeared to be “living the American dream,” said Patrick Baccari, a food inspector who shared a cubicle with Farook.
Baccari and Christian Nwadike said Farook, who worked with them as a health inspector for about three years, rarely started a conversation. But the tall, thin, young man with a full beard was well-liked and spent much of his time out in the field.
They and other colleagues said Farook was a devout Muslim, but rarely discussed religion at work.
“He never struck me as a fanatic, he never struck me as suspicious,” said Griselda Reisinger, who worked with Farook before leaving the agency in May.
They apparently hadn't seen him in his "assault style clothing."
They apparently didn't know he possessed an arsenal and GoPro cameras and a plan to carry out mass executions in cold blood. They apparently didn't know he lived in a home that the FBI is calling an "IED facility." They apparently didn't know Farook and his wife would choose to make their baby an orphan.
Whatever the motive for the slaughter, there is no question that Farook and Malik were extremists. They trained for war. They "prepared for a sustained fight."
This was not some sort of spontaneous workplace violent outburst.
So, Farook and Malik are dead.
That's the good news.
The bad news is Farook and Malik had to have had connections with other bad guys, and they aren't dead.

Hillary Clinton, like those of her Leftist ilk, was quick to jump on social media to score political points not long after the shooting in San Bernardino. I refuse to accept this as normal. We must take action to stop gun violence now. -H https://t.co/SkKglwQycb
Obama, too, shamelessly shilled for his anti-gun agenda in the wake of the slaughter. He slammed America and Americans.
From CNN:
"We don't yet know what the motives of the shooters are but what we do know is that there are steps we can take to make Americans safer," Obama said in the interview. "We should never think that this is just something that just happens in the ordinary course of events because it doesn't happen with the same frequency in other countries."Poor Obama.
Obama said the pattern of U.S. mass shootings "has no parallel anywhere else in the world."
He probably hoped the shooters were angry conservative Christian white guys.
Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik don't fit the narrative.
This is more complicated for those wanting to exploit the dead, like Hillary and Obama.

This week: lone mass murderer represents just himself
