The disgraced former governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer, was Jay Leno's guest on Friday's Tonight Show.

Spitzer, Client #9, believes he has the character and judgment to be trusted as New York City's comptroller.

Leno called Spitzer brilliant, but then followed up with "How could you be this stupid?"

Spitzer kept referring to his "fall from grace."

That gentle, almost poetic term glosses over just how sleazy and corrupt Spitzer was exposed to be.

I wouldn't trust him to hold public office.

In March, it will be one year since New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer was exposed as "Client 9." Spitzer, crime crusader, found himself on the wrong side of the law in a prostitution ring.

Spitzer lost a lot. He resigned and left office in disgrace.

It's a different story for Ashley Dupre, the whore involved with Spitzer. She's actually gained from the scandal. She's transformed her notoriety into a job at the New York Post, writing a weekly advice column.

It's a good thing that Dupre has turned her life around and she's no longer turning tricks for a living. I think I'm right in assuming she gave up that line of work, but I can't be sure.

For the sake of discussion, let's assume Dupre's whoring days are behind her.

I don't think the New York Post would have given Dupre her own column if not for her fame as being Spitzer's whore.

She's being rewarded because of the illegal activities in her past and the fact that her lawbreaking by chance included a shameless, hypocritical governor. That doesn't seem right to me.

It's hard to believe that Dupre is actually writing the column on her own. I am doubtful that she has the ability to analyze moral issues and then express herself in a coherent manner. There must be a ghostwriter involved.

I wonder why those at the Post believe readers would want to take advice about sex, love, and relationships from Dupre. The woman's judgment hasn't exactly been the best.

Ashley Dupre seems to have won one of life's lotteries.

She happened to be former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's whore and now she stands to make millions of dollars.

Eliot Spitzer scandal call girl Ashley Dupre is weighing a $2 million deal offered by a veteran reality-show producer that could cast her as "a kind of Dr. Phil," the New York Post reported.

David Krieff, who brought together Amy Fisher and the Buttafuocos and Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding for TV specials, approached Dupre two weeks ago after getting a letter of commitment from an entertainment network and a major studio, he told The Post.

The producer and Dupre's lawyers and publicist have been discussing the details by phone and could seal the deal within the next two weeks, according to Krieff.

"It's a seven-figure deal," said Krieff. "There could be a book. It's an overall exclusive-rights deal," Krieff told the Post. "As far as I know, it's the only deal she's considering."

Krieff said Dupre wants a show "that maybe cleans up her image," and has expressed an interest in journalism and lounge singing.

"She also has a strong desire to give to a charity," he said. "She's very analytical. She wants to help people. She sees herself as a kind of Dr. Phil."

So Dupre is thinking about being a journalist or a lounge singer. That's interesting. Too bad she didn't try those career options out in the first place.

(Dr. Phil must be thrilled.)

Dupre has shown that she has a strong desire to give, but in the past, it's been for her own profit. It seems to me that it still is all about her.

If she's sincere, I think it's great that Dupre wants to clean up her image. However, I don't think she accomplishes that through fame that came because she prostituted herself.

If she has a strong desire to give to a charity, why doesn't she volunteer somewhere?

Perhaps she could donate some of her past earnings to a good cause.

In a remarkably self-serving move, Dupré highlights some of the "inspirational mail" she received. She publishes the messages that call her a star, beautiful, intelligent, an American icon. (An American icon???)

Of course, she publishes messages that praise her tremendous talent and encourage her to press ahead with her brilliant musical career.

I found this one amusing:

"Keep your head up. Don't let others make you suffer for what isn't your fault."

Dupré can't be blamed for Eliot Spitzer's fate. He is 100 percent responsible for being a liar and an adulterer and a hypocrite.

However, if Dupré has suffered because of the notoriety that being one of America's best known prostitutes brings, that's definitely her fault. She brought that on herself.

Actually, I find this one disturbing:

You were doing your thing and having fun...thats all that matters.

No, that's NOT all that matters. When doing your thing means engaging in illegal activities, that's a societal issue. Contributing to the "women as objects" mentality shouldn't be a fun thing.

I don't know. I don't think Eleanor Roosevelt would have given Dupré a pep talk. My guess is Roosevelt, a strong woman and true American icon, would have pointed out that being a whore is not a good career choice and in no way empowering.

I sincerely hope that Dupré turns her life around. Rather than blathering about her "fans," she could use her time in the spotlight to encourage others to learn from her mistakes. She could warn others to respect themselves enough not to be part of an illegal call girl operation. As Ms. Bad Example, she could help others.

Unfortunately, Dupré doesn't take that route.

There's nothing wrong with thanking people for kindness. I'm sure the messages of support helped her and she appreciates them. It's totally appropriate to acknowledge the support.

We've all made mistakes and bad decisions. Dupré made a BIG mistake. She used terrible judgment, but I don't think she sees it that way. She doesn't seem to regret her choices.

One of Eliot Spitzer's whores, the now infamous whore, Ashley Alexandra Dupre, is trying to make big bucks in the courthouse.

Dupre gained notoriety in March when it came out that she was the high-priced call girl named "Kristen" named in court documents who was hired by Spitzer for at least one tryst at a posh Washington hotel. Spitzer, known as "Client 9" in the documents, resigned as New York governor a few days after the scandal broke.

["Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe] Francis made a public $1 million offer for Dupre to appear in a "Girls Gone Wild" video and go on a promotional tour, then rescinded the offer after he realized he already had footage of Dupre from 2003. Dupre's lawyer warned she was only 17 when the video was shot, not 18 as Francis claimed.

Francis said in March that Dupre spent a week on a "Girls Gone Wild" bus and made seven full-length tapes after signing release papers. He also said he bought her a bus ticket home to North Carolina.

Francis said he was surprised by the lawsuit.

"It is incomprehensible that Ms. Dupre could claim she did not give her consent to be filmed by Girls Gone Wild, when in fact we have videotape of her giving consent, while showing her identification," Francis said in a statement.

He said the photos were taken "in front of a room full of people, including two newspapers and multiple crews we had in the room." Francis also said he would be happy to discuss the $1 million offer with her again.

The lawsuit claims Dupre is the victim of unfair trade practices, false advertising and unauthorized use of her likeness.

I think the immoral Spitzer was an idiot for paying Dupre so much.

Hopefully, a jury won't make a $10 million mistake. I think it's highly unlikely.

The lawsuit does give the whore Dupre attention and puts her back in the spotlight. That might be worth it to her, the media whore.

Larry King interviewed Jason Itzler, Ashley Alexandra Dupré's former pimp. Itzler bragged that he's "the king of all pimps." Prior to the interview with King, Itzler was interviewed by Anderson Cooper.

She was born Ashley R. Youmans, legally changed her name to Ashley Rae Maika DiPietro, and now goes by Ashley Alexandra Dupré.

NEW YORK -- The call girl at the center of the prostitution scandal that prompted Gov. Eliot Spitzer to resign in disgrace has been identified as a 22-year-old aspiring musician who struggled in a broken home as a child.

The New York Times reported that the real name of the woman — identified as "Kristen" in court papers alleging that Spitzer paid thousands of dollars for her services — is Ashley Alexandra Dupre.

Don D. Buchwald, a New York lawyer, confirmed to The Associated Press that he represents Dupre, but he wouldn't comment further.

Law enforcement officials have said Spitzer had a Feb. 13 tryst with Kristen and paid her $4,300, according to court papers. Spitzer said Wednesday that he's resigning.

Dupre briefly spoke to the Times about the Spitzer scandal but didn't offer details on her involvement in it.

"I just don't want to be thought of as a monster," Dupre told the Times. "This has been a very difficult time. It's complicated."

Dupre told the newspaper she had slept very little since the allegations against Spitzer were revealed, and she declined to comment when asked by the Times when she first met him and how many times they had been together.

She told the Times she was worried about paying her rent in a ninth-floor Manhattan apartment since her boyfriend recently left her. She said she was considering moving back in with her family in New Jersey.

A man who answered the phone at her mother's home in New Jersey and identified himself as Dupre's brother told The Associated Press he had no idea why Dupre would agree to be interviewed in the scandal.

"She's just trying to get through this," he said. "We are all trying to be supportive of her."

Photos of Dupre don't fit with Ashley's dramatic tale of her family life. Her family doesn't seem to be too broken. She certainly wasn't struggling for money. If her older brother split, he's back.

So Ashley doesn't want to be thought of as a monster.

I wonder if Silda Wall Spitzer thinks of Ashley as a monster. Spitzer's three daughters -- Do they think Ashley is a monster?

Personally, I don't think she's a monster. She's a whore.

Her brother said that the family is "trying to be supportive of her."

Why didn't she go to them for help when she was worried about paying her rent?

It bothers me that she's achieving some fame now for prostituting herself.

Kristen, the prostitute described in a federal affidavit as having had a rendezvous with Mr. Spitzer on Feb. 13 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, has spent the last few days in her ninth-floor apartment in the Flatiron district of Manhattan. On Monday, she made a brief appearance in federal court, where a lawyer was appointed to represent her. She is expected to be a witness in the case against four people charged with operating a prostitution ring called the Emperor’s Club V.I.P.

In a series of telephone interviews on Tuesday night, she said she had slept very little over the past week, with all the stress of the case.

Born Ashley Youmans but now known as Ashley Alexandra Dupré, she spoke softly and with good humor as she added with significant understatement: “This has been a very difficult time. It is complicated.”

Ms. Dupré said by telephone Tuesday night that she was worried about how she would pay her rent since the man she was living with “walked out on me” after she discovered he had fathered two children. She said she was considering working at a friend’s restaurant or, once her apartment lease expires, moving back with her family in New Jersey “to relax.”

Dupré is looking at her options. She might work at a friend's restaurant or move back in with her family "to relax."

Yes, the poor thing probably needs to unwind. Good grief.

Were these options available to her before she was identified as Eliot's whore?

If they were, she CHOSE to sell her integrity and her body to make big bucks. She was not some desperate victim forced into prostitution to stay alive.

Ms. Dupré’s mother, Carolyn Capalbo, 46, said that after her daughter finished sophomore year in high school, Ms. Dupré moved to North Carolina. “She was a young kid with typical teenage rebellion issues, but we are extremely close now,” Ms. Capalbo said in a telephone interview Wednesday.

In 2006, Ms. Dupré changed her legal name, according to records in Monmouth County Superior Court, from Ashley R. Youmans to Ashley Rae Maika DiPietro, taking her stepfather’s surname since she regarded him as “the only father I have known.” But in the interview, she referred to herself as Ashley Alexandra Dupré, which is how she is known on MySpace.

Mother Capalbo says that she and her daughter are "extremely close now."

I wonder if Ashley has told her mom all the details.

I don't know why the mother talked to the media. I can't imagine that interview.

...Ms. Capalbo said that she was “shell-shocked” when her daughter called in the middle of last week and told her she had been working as an escort and was now in trouble with the law. She said she was not sure that Ms. Dupré realized who Mr. Spitzer was when he was her client.

“She is a very bright girl who can handle someone like the governor,” Ms. Capalbo said. “But she also is a 22-year-old, not a 32-year-old or a 42-year-old, and she obviously got involved in something much larger than her.”

The high-priced hooker at the center of Gov. Spitzer's sex scandal trysted with him several times before he was caught on a wiretap - but it was only during their last encounter that she realized the real identity of her john, sources said yesterday.

...The 22-year-old call girl had several dates with the governor over the past year, the sources said, but always knew him as "George Fox" - the name of one of Spitzer's close friends that he used to hide his identity.

I thought Dupré was a bright girl. Well, this "bright girl" didn't recognize her governor.

...[A]s the Democratic governor prepared to slink out of office on Monday with his tail between his legs, sordid details of Dupre's decline into prostitution emerged.

Sources say Dupre got involved with the Emperors Club as early as 2006 after responding to an ad from the agency seeking girls to "party" with deep-pocketed men.

After meeting with her, the escort service's operators liked what they saw. She took to the job quickly.

"Like all of them, she wanted to hang out with guys with money," a source said.

After moving to New York to pursue a music career in 2004, Dupre worked as a cocktail waitress, hostess and bartender at New York hot spots like Viscaya, Pink Elephant and Retox. She partied with club promoters and bragged about hobnobbing with hip-hoppers like Sean "Diddy" Combs.

"She's been hanging around the night-life scene for a few years," said one well-connected club source. "She's definitely a party girl. She was out four, five nights a week and was a staple. She danced on tables and had fun."

Few knew she was financing her high-octane lifestyle through the oldest profession on earth.

"Nobody knew she was a prostitute," the club source said. "Everyone assumes it goes on, but you never know which girls are involved. Now it makes sense where her Cartier watch, her Louis Vuitton bathing suit and her trips to St.-Tropez came from."

...On her MySpace page - where she admitted, "Yeah, I did it," after word of her involvement with Spitzer emerged - Dupre described struggling with drugs. Sources said the tattoos were mantras to help keep her clean.

Born Ashley Youmans, Dupre grew up in Seaside Heights and Wall Township by the Jersey Shore. She also mentioned being abused while growing up, saying it forced her to run away - a claim one family friend called ridiculous.

"She crashed up [her stepdad's] Porsche and wanted another one, and he wouldn't give it to her, so she left," said the friend, who asked her name not be printed.

I think we can put to rest the notion that Dupré was a victim.

She made her choices. She chose to be a whore. She loves her life.
