I’m not going to wig out over Walmart but as long as we’re at it, states should raise the age to vote to 21 also. If we don’t trust 18 year-olds to drink alcohol or buy firearms why in the world would we trust them do something as responsible as to vote? https://t.co/8NeFqF2IuB

It's a fair question.
There is an inconsistency in terms of what we deem an appropriate age to accept certain responsibilities and withhold others.
Local Leftists and anti-Trump conservatives have complained and complained that Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke wasn't doing a good job. Now that he's stepping aside for a position with the Department of Homeland Security, they're complaining that he's abandoning Milwaukee.
Confirmed in an exclusive interview on my show, @SheriffClarke will leave his position as Milwaukee County Sheriff for a position at DHS.
Sheriff David Clarke was an important figure in Milwaukee County, one of the only voices standing up for law and order. I worry about what will happen without him.
Vicki McKenna got the exclusive announcement and Clarke's first interview about his new position.
The attacks on Clarke aren't just from local hacks and enemies anymore. Salon did a hit piece on Clarke last week.
Enough with the political posturing and the personal vendettas!
Clarke should be judged fairly.
In a blog post, Vicki McKenna counters the smears with a comprehensive piece, including links supporting the facts she presents.
She credits "Matt Kittle, formerly of Wisconsin Watchdog, now with the MacIver Institute for being the one actual reporter trying to get the real story."
The "MSNBC 'Conservative'" is, of course, Charlie Sykes.
He credits himself for creating Sheriff David Clarke. Sykes refers to Clarke as "my Frankenstein monster."
Good grief. Sykes didn't create Clarke. Sykes talks like he was the most powerful person in Milwaukee media, pulling all the strings and getting voters to do his will. With all due respect, that's flat-out nuts.
We go through the MSNBC looking glass completely when Democrat Wisconsin state senator Leftist Lena Taylor joins Sykes as an ally.
On Sunday's AM Joy, it was another case of MSNBC including an alleged conservative guest for the purpose of having him bolster the views of the liberal host rather than provide a contrarian point of view. MSNBC contributor and right-leaning talk radio host Charlie Sykes joined in host Joy Reid's derision of Sheriff David Clarke as he complained that the Milwaukee County sheriff has been "AWOL" and has used his uniform as a "prop" on Fox News.
The MSNBC contributor then ended up deriding him as "my Frankenstein monster" who has "beclowned himself" as he referred back to supporting the Milwaukee County sheriff in the past.
After recalling that the right-leaning Democratic sheriff recently attracted a primary opponent for next year's election, host Reid brought aboard Sykes and Wisconsin Democratic State Senator Lena Taylor. After relating to viewers that there has been a movement to push Sheriff Clarke to run for the U.S. Senate, she turned to Sykes and snarked: "Do you see in Sheriff Clarke someone who still wants to be sheriff and, you know. let more people die in his jail?"
Laughter could be heard in the background, and Sykes started to chuckle as he responded:
No, I -- it's a -- (pauses to chuckle) -- it's an interesting question because I'm sure they would like to keep wearing that uniform as a prop when he goes on Fox News. Which is about the only time that we ever see him around here. I mean he is awol. He's basically bailed on Milwaukee.
So I actually don't see him running for reelection. I think that he thinks that he is bigger than the sheriff's job and he's really transformed himself into this mini Trump wannabe. And that's his career trajectory.

Moments later, Reid referred to Sykes's conservative talk radio background as she asked:
And Charlie Sykes, as someone who was, you know, a long time in conservative talk radio, talk radio in the past was very supportive of this guy. But you just hinted at some of your change of heart, that you think that he's been awol. Would Republicans get behind him if he runs against Tammy Baldwin for the United States Senate?
After predicting a crowded primary for U.S. Senate, Sykes further piled on the Milwaukee County sheriff as he added:
I do think that Sheriff Clarke in the last year has really sort of "beclowned" himself, and I refer to him as kind of "my Frankenstein monster." There was a time when Sheriff Clarke had some substantive things to say, but clearly the ego and the big hat, I think, have gotten the best of him. But I don't see that as a plausible path for him.
Reid referring to Sykes' "change of heart" is hilarious.
Yes, we all know about that profound "change of heart."
Because I don't watch MSNBC, I don't deal with that 180 Reid speaks of as a "change of heart."
I assume most loyal listeners of Sykes' old radio program aren't aware of the post-620 WTMJ Sykes, and just how radically his heart has apparently changed.
Sykes spent years trashing MSNBC and its propaganda. I doubt Sykes' audience made the leap to MSNBC with him. I doubt the former audience has adopted the Leftist mindset like him.
There is "beclowning" occurring. That much is certain. However, David Clarke hasn't beclowned himself. Sykes has.
If Clarke were the Republican candidate challenging extremist Leftist Tammy Baldwin, Wisconsin Republicans would support him, though I think it's unlikely he will be Baldwin's opponent.
Someone needs to remind Sykes that Wisconsin went Republican for the first time since Ronald Reagan. Wisconsinites preferred Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton. We also reelected Republican Ron Johnson, handing Russ Feingold another defeat. Those same people would likely get behind Clarke to oust Baldwin.
Sykes needs to stop viewing reality through the Leftist lens.
The whole "my Frankenstein monster" thing smacks of egomania on the part of Sykes.
If Wisconsinites viewed Sykes as our leader, Trump would not have carried the state.
Sykes said, "There was a time when Sheriff Clarke had some substantive things to say, but clearly the ego and the big hat, I think, have gotten the best of him."
It pains me to say that "clearly the ego" has gotten the best of Sykes.
This is so inconsistent with his years and years of conservative talk.
Wilmouth writes:
After Reid turned back to State Senator Taylor and received from her more criticism of Sheriff Clarke, Turner ended up concluding: "I'm so glad to hear that Charlie Sykes and I agree that David Clarke is all hat and no cattle."
The MSNBC host ended the segment by jokingly commenting that she had brought her two guests together because seeing them agree would be "unexpected," even though there's actually nothing "unexpected" about seeing a "conservative" and a liberal agree on MSNBC. Reid: "We did this segment specifically to get State Senate Lena Turner [sic] and Charlie Sykes to agree on TV because no one would be expecting that. So we do the unexpected here on AM Joy."
Oh, my God.
Sykes spent years attacking Lena Taylor.

One of the points driven home by the mayor was that the 10:00 p.m. weekday curfew for teenagers in the City of Milwaukee will be more strictly enforced.
Sherman Park will be closed to the public at 6:00 p.m. Monday night, and reopen at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 16th, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.
This is about protecting the law-abiding citizens of the Sherman Park neighborhood and the city of Milwaukee.
DAVID CLARKE: I understand there are a lot of people, a lot people, who have concerns about Donald Trump, on our side. I mean by 'our side' conservative side. I'm not a member of the Republican party, but Republican voters when I say 'our side' and conservatives. I understand that. It's your vote. You do what you want with it. But, I want to give you some things to think about. That's all I want to do is give you a couple things to think about if you're one of these Never Trumpers or whatever you want to say, 'I'll never vote for either of them.' That's fine. It's your vote. You do what you want with it.
But, do this. Put yourself through a little test.
Take your ego out of it, first of all; because that's what I've done. I keep saying this isn't about me. This is not about me. Put your country first. Just try it. Take your ego out. Put your country first. Now have the conversation, because I'm tired of hearing about this principled conservatism. I know what a conservative is. I know what I am.
Here's what being a conservative means to me:
I believe in limited government. How do you limit government? Restrain federal bureaucracy and lower taxes. The more money you send to Washington the bigger their appetite gets, and the bigger government grows.
I believe in military superiority.
I believe that the Constitution protects individuals. These are individuals liberties. You don't derive your constitutional protections out of membership in a group. They're individual rights.
I believe in the rule of law. That is the hallmark of the United States Constitution, the bedrock. It's what I talked about in my speech last week. When I wrote that speech, all they said to me was 'the theme is Making America Safe Again. We'd like to have you share your experiences as it relates to the rule of law.' Go back and listen to the speech. Not because it was great or anything. The whole thing was, the theme of my speech was the rule of law. It's very important to me.
And finally I believe in more rights for the states.
That's what it means to me, ladies and gentlemen. It could mean something different to you, and I know there's all these other things. And I'm not saying those are not important, and I'm not saying that those don't make you conservative, or make you more conservative. I don't say I'm more conservative than anybody. I just say I know what it means to me. But I've taken myself out of the equation.
I sat back and watched that primary process. And when it came to Wisconsin, I got approached by the Kasich camp, the Cruz camp, met Cruz, face to face, the Trump camp. They all asked for an endorsement. I said I'm staying out of it. I said that publicly. I said that on my podcast six, seven, eight months ago. I said I'm not endorsing.... I said I'm staying out of it. I want the voters, I want the process, the primary process to determine who wins this thing. And I said I will support and I will vote for whoever is standing at the end.
Folks, it's Donald Trump. I didn't know that. Personally, I liked Scott Walker at the beginning, Carly Fiorina. There were a number of qualified...but who's standing at the end?
So, I took myself out of it by not endorsing, gave myself some breathing room.... I took my ego out of it, and I want to put my country first....
So when I hear people talking about principled conservatism, I go, 'Well, you know what? Stop yourself.'
We all know what it means to be a conservative, and it means different things to different people. And you could tell me what it means to you, and I wouldn't say you're wrong. But I'd say, 'Take yourself out of it. Get off your high horse with this principled conservatism.' Because the GOP Congress right now is not exhibiting principled conservative behavior....
You let the voters down, at the midterms, after 2014. You let them down, and they're pissed. And they showed their discontent. And it led to the rise of Donald Trump, who tuned into that discontent. Any of those other sixteen or so candidates could have done it, but they didn't. Don't blame Donald Trump for that. Blame the candidates who couldn't connect with the voters. That's their job.
So if you do those two things -- just put your ego aside, because your guy didn't win or your woman - I like Carly Fiorina - I say 'guy,' I use that neutrally, because they didn't win. Well, yeah, OK. Shame on them. Because politics is about connecting with the American people. Trump knows how to do that. He has that skill. What? Do you want to knock him for it? Everyone else had just as much chance as he did....
I'm telling you right now the Supreme Court is going to be shaped with the next couple of appointments, and it's going to change this country for the next forty to fifty years, which is why I say put your country first.
PUT YOUR COUNTRY FIRST. Get off the high horse.
Principled conservatism?
GIVE ME A BREAK!
It's idiotic to claim to be Never Trump AND Never Hillary. It's impossible without a viable third party candidate.
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke was sitting in for Mark Belling on Thursday.
He talked with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. They discussed a variety of topics including law enforcement, terrorism, immigration, and school choice.
Hillary is no school choice advocate. She's an opponent.
Can you admit that Trump is the better candidate when it comes to school choice?
DONALD TRUMP: It's one of the great things we can do for education. And frankly, you'll never see it on the other side, the Democrats. It's one of the great things we can do for our children for education, where you have choice. That means you have competition, and it's been proven to work so many different times. I am totally in favor of choice on education. Some of the greatest people in the world on education have studied it, written about it, and really, I mean closely. It's something that really works. So, I'm for choice.
DAVID CLARKE: Mr. Trump, your opponent, Mrs. Bill Clinton, opposes the voucher program; and that says a lot to me in terms of her character, that she won't allow struggling parents-- She got to send her kid to the best schools. Good for her. President Barack Obama, his two kids go to Sidwell Friends. Good for them. You've sent your kids to good schools. You're the only one though that says, 'Hey, you know what? Other people should be able to get their beak wet, too.' And helping them end this generational poverty. I think that says a lot about your character as well.
Never Trump means having Hillary as president, opponent of school choice.
So much for conservative principles, Never Trumpkins.
It always ends the same, with me saying I've got to stop watching.
Once or twice during the 90 minutes, I find something mildly amusing or slightly entertaining.
Specifically, I don't recall what I thought was funny during the Julia Louis-Dreyfus episode, but there was something.
Most of it was awful.
Like this: Heroin AM.
Not funny. At all.
I thought Louis-Dreyfus, the writers, and cast members responsible for the taped sketch made a terrible choice to go with it. They couldn't possibly participate in something like that if they had been touched by the problem personally, right?
Wrong, I guess.
Certainly, Lorne Michaels lost friends/co-workers to use/addiction. He was obviously OK with the bit.
I knew as it aired that it would be discussed because of the current effort to deal with the escalation in use and the accompanying deaths.
