Kaci Hickox, Ebola Nurse, and the CDC

Kaci Hickox, the nurse whining that she shouldn't be expected to take precautions to protect the American public due to her possible exposure to Ebola, is an Obama supporter with ties to the feckless CDC.

Even as New Jersey officials on Monday released a nurse they had kept quarantined in a tent since her return from treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, an unapologetic Gov. Chris Christie dismissed those who questioned his handling of the case and denied that he had reversed himself.

The nurse, Kaci Hickox, 33, who had previously been working with Doctors Without Borders, became the first public test case for a mandatory quarantine that both Mr. Christie and Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York announced on Friday.

One of Ms. Hickox’s lawyers, Steven Hyman, said she had been released midday from University Hospital in Newark. A hospital spokeswoman said that two black S.U.V.s with tinted windows were headed to Maine, with the patient as a passenger in one. The spokeswoman, Stacie Newton, declined to say where in Maine the convoy was going, or whose vehicles they were.

Oh, good grief!

What drama!

If Hickox really is a caring person, a heroine, she would sacrifce 21 days for the safety of the public.

The fact is she's selfish, and a mouthpiece and puppet for the Obama agenda when it comes to Ebola.

Yes, she did a wonderful thing by putting herself at risk to care of people stricken with a deadly virus. However, if you spend time in sn Ebola hot zone, TREATING EBOLA PATIENTS, and you show up at an American airport with a fever of 101, you damn well better be quarantined.

Hickox is unbelievably selfish.

Anyone who agrees to tend to Ebola patients in Africa should agree to give 3 weeks to assure the safety of Americans.

Period.

The whining by Hickox is shocking. It's seems so inconsistent. Someone who cares enough to volunteer to go to Africa to tend to the sick should understand the necessary inconvenience of quarantine.

There are so many people at high risk of disease, such as those suffering with poor immune systems due to the side effects of chemotherapy.

Hickox doesn't care.

The elderly? The very young?

Spencer treated Ebola patients in Africa, and he didn't feel well Tuesday morning, but that didn't keep him from hanging out in public places and using public transportation yesterday.

The CDC says Spencer passed the enhanced screening for travelers from West Africa.

I guess that tells us the "enhanced screening" is not getting the job done.

Dr. Spencer had been working with Doctors Without Borders in Guinea treating Ebola patients, and completed his work on Oct. 12, Dr. Bassett said. He flew out of the country on Oct. 14, traveling via Europe, and arrived in New York on Oct. 17.

Since returning, he had been taking his temperature twice a day, Dr. Bassett said.

He told the authorities that he did not believe the protective gear he wore while working with Ebola patients had been breached but had been monitoring his own health.

That's disturbing.

...“He is a committed and responsible physician who always puts his patients first,” the hospital said in a statement. “He has not been to work at our hospital and has not seen any patients at our hospital since his return from overseas.”

Was it responsible to go bowling and use public transportation?

No.

Craig Spencer, who was was suffering from Ebola-like symptoms — a 103-degree fever and nausea — spent Wednesday night bowling in Williamsburg, the sources said. He used Uber taxis to get there and back.

He landed at JFK airport on Oct. 17 on a connecting flight from Brussels, a source said. Spencer’s temperature was 98.7 degrees upon arrival, the source added.

It's going to be tough to track Spencer's contacts.

It seems that anyone who has come from West Africa and TREATED EBOLA PATIENTS should automatically be isolated to be sure they don't spread the virus.

Certainly, doctors and healthcare workers should understand that necessity to protect the public health.

Nothing gets in the way of Obama's golf game.

The world is going to hell in a handbasket. It's overwhelming.

But Obama is relaxed. He putts. He's happy.

Oh, now you CANNOT get it from riding on a plane or a bus.

So why is the CDC scrambling to contact everyone who was on the planes used by Amber Vinson?

It's easy for Obama to say not to fear public transportation when he and his family trot around the globe on Air Force One. When he pays a visit to Gwyneth Paltrow, Obama doesn't take a Frontier Airlines flight.

The White House needs to call the CDC and tell them to change the information on the CDC website. Obama is feeding the public different information.

I hate the comparison to the flu. The flu does not have a 70 percent, or higher, mortality rate.

The flu/Ebola comparison can't be called an "apples and oranges" thing. It's more of an "apples and toxic waste" matter.

"We know how to fight this disease. We know the protocols. And we know that when they're followed, they work."

If that's the case, why hasn't Obama expressed anger and extreme regret over the breakdown in protocols in Dallas, and the failure of the U.S. government to adequately prepare for the inevitable? Obama refuses to be held accountable, and hold buffoons like Tom Frieden accountable.

"We can't just cut ourselves off from West Africa, where this disease is raging. Our medical experts tell us that the best way to stop this disease is to stop it at its source-before it spreads even wider and becomes even more difficult to contain. Trying to seal off an entire region of the world-if that were even possible-could actually make the situation worse. It would make it harder to move health workers and supplies back and forth. Experience shows that it could also cause people in the affected region to change their travel, to evade screening, and make the disease even harder to track."

Of course, we need to stop the virus at its source. There is an enormous difference between "sealing off an entire region," as if to abandon it, and being responsible in terms of free travel by infected individuals. The screeing process didn't keep Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan from lying to his government and getting through to infect American healthcare workers.

What's working in Africa, dramatic measures like closing borders and severely restricting travel, should be done here to protect our homeland.

Obama doesn't get that his first job is to protect Americans, not expose us to a lethal virus.

This has been a disaster. Obama and his administration have screwed up royally.

I am praying that Nina Pham and Amber Vinson fully recover. In order to survive, they have to beat long odds. The video of Nina in her hospital bed is heartbreaking. It is awful.

Nina didn't get on a plane or go on a cruise. She did the right thing. God, my heart goes out to her and her family. Amber, too.

Has Obama called Nina? Has he called Amber?

If Ebola is so hard to get, I want to see photos of Obama visiting Nina and Amber in the hospital.

Would an image of Obama in a hazmat suit be kind of bad?

Probably.

"He will report directly to the president’s homeland security adviser, Lisa Monaco, and the president's national security adviser, Susan Rice, as he ensures that efforts to protect the American people by detecting, isolating and treating Ebola patients in this country are properly integrated but don’t distract from the aggressive commitment to stopping Ebola at the source in West Africa," a White House official wrote in an e-mail.

Klain, a longtime Democratic operative, served as Biden's chief of staff from 2009 to 2011 and as Gore's from 1995 to 1999. He helped oversee the Democratic side in the 2000 presidential election recount as its lead lawyer, a role that Kevin Spacey portrayed in the HBO film "Recount."

Oh, good grief.

I'm REALLY confident that Klain will put politics aside in managing Ebola.

I have no confidence in Obama to handle this, absolutely zero.

I have not been this concerned about an outside threat, in terms of not feeling safe and worrying that my loved ones may be in danger, since the terror of 9/11.

What's scary about the spread of this lethal virus, this terrible threat to Americans, is that our government is actually working against us.

After 9/11, I was confident the government would do what needed to be done to protect me and my family.

In this case, the government I fund with my tax dollars is not protecting me. There is complete incompetence, misinformation, and perhaps intentional deception.

My government is my enemy when it comes to Ebola.

That's a problem.

Yesterday, Obama attempted to reassure the American people about the Ebola crisis.

One proposal: Ebola SWAT teams.

OBAMA: First of all, what I’ve directed the CDC to do is that as soon as somebody is diagnosed with Ebola, we want a rapid response team, a SWAT team, essentially, from the CDC to be on the ground as quickly as possible -- hopefully within 24 hours -- so that they are taking the local hospital step by step through exactly what needs to be done and making sure that all the protocols are properly observed; that the use of protective equipment is done effectively; that disposal of that protective equipment is done properly.

Unbelievable.

Obama says, "[W]e want a rapid response team, a SWAT team, essentially, from the CDC to be on the ground as quickly as possible -- hopefully within 24 hours."

Good grief.

"Hopefully within 24 hours" is NOT a rapid response.

If Obama's life was being threatened, would he be content with getting assistance to protect him "hopefully within 24 hours"?

Of course not.

A "SWAT team" should be able to arrive at a scene within 8 hours or less.

We need Congress to take action to prevent disaster, since Obama isn't willing to use his mighty pen and his mighty phone to take effective action.

Ron Johnson: Restrict Travel From Africa

Obviously, the Obama administration is making terrible decisions when it comes to the public health.

Obama doesn't seem to grasp the deadly seriousness of the Ebola situation.

Ron Johnson does get it.

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin is calling for the U.S. to increase efforts to combat the Ebola virus domestically and fight the Islamic State group abroad, while criticizing the Obama administration's handling of both crises.

During an interview Tuesday, the Republican told the Leader-Telegram that the federal focus needs to shift away from addressing climate change. Instead, he said the U.S. should bar people who have been to African countries affected by the Ebola outbreak in the past 30 days from entering the county or place them in quarantine for 21 days.

"That's kind of the minimal action we should be taking," Johnson said. "We need to protect ourselves against even the current situation, but we certainly need to protect ourselves against an even worse situation, and we're not doing enough right now."

The current strategy of questioning people who are traveling from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the West African countries that have been hit hardest by Ebola, isn't working to protect Americans, according to Johnson. Travelers who are seeking access to U.S. health care aren't likely to give honest answers to the questions, he said.

Johnson is right.

Trying to isolate the virus and prevent outbreaks in the U.S. through travel restrictions is the minimal action we should be taking to protect Americans from this deadly threat.

It's a no-brainer.

But Johnson has been involved in supporting federal budgets that attempted to cut funding for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Democratic Party spokeswoman Melissa Baldauff.

"Ron Johnson is someone who has stood in the way of making progress and making sure our country is prepared to handle a global health crisis," Baldauff said.

What a crock!

Johnson has not been part of any effort to cut funding to deal with an Ebola epidemic in the U.S. Positively absurd!

The Democrats are playing politics with this. It's shockingly irresponsible.

Some Republicans, like Mitch McConnell, are joining Democrats in their irresponsibility.

Fighting Ebola and protecting Americans from deadly disease should be something politicians from both parties should support.
