CNN - Donald Trump Jr., WikiLeaks FAKE NEWS

It's fun to watch CNN!

Glenn Greenwald writes:

Friday was one of the most embarrassing days for the U.S. media in quite a long time. The humiliation orgy was kicked off by CNN, with MSNBC and CBS close behind, with countless pundits, commentators and operatives joining the party throughout the day. By the end of the day, it was clear that several of the nation’s largest and most influential news outlets had spread an explosive but completely false news story to millions of people, while refusing to provide any explanation of how it happened.

...It’s impossible to convey with words what a spectacularly devastating scoop CNN believed it had, so it’s necessary to watch it for yourself to see the tone of excitement, breathlessness and gravity the network conveyed as they clearly believed they were delivering a near-fatal blow to the Trump/Russia collusion story:

There was just one small problem with this story: it was fundamentally false, in the most embarrassing way possible. Hours after CNN broadcast its story – and then hyped it over and over and over – the Washington Post reported that CNN got the key fact of the story wrong.

The email was not dated September 4, as CNN claimed, but rather September 14 – which means it was sent after WikiLeaks had already published access to the DNC emails online. Thus, rather than offering some sort of special access to Trump, “Michael J. Erickson” was simply some random person from the public encouraging the Trump family to look at the publicly available DNC emails that WikiLeaks – as everyone by then already knew – had publicly promoted. In other words, the email was the exact opposite of what CNN presented it as being.

Wisconsin: Hillary Blames Russia

So many excuses.

From the Daily Wire:
Hillary said 17 intelligence agencies "concluded with high confidence that the Russians ran an extensive information war campaign against my campaign, to influence voters in the election. They did it through paid advertising we think, they did it through false news sites, they did it through these thousand agents, they did it through machine learning, which you know, kept spewing out this stuff over and over again. The algorithms that they developed. So that was the conclusion. And I think it’s fair to ask, how did that actually influence the campaign? And how did they know what messages to deliver?"

Then she got more specific, wading in to how she lost the key states of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. She says the Russians -- "let's say Wikileaks, something" -- dumped false information about her. Deluged with that on social media, voters -- dumb ones, especially, Hillary said -- on the fence in the waning days were searching for the truth, she said. "And we know that the Google searches for this stuff were particularly high in places in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania," Hillary concluded.

Oh, good grief.

Hillary never came to Wisconsin to campaign. For her to say that she knows what we were thinking here or what influenced us is nuts.

She thinks the Russians dumped false information about her and Trump allies helped "weaponize" it, resulting in her loss in Wisconsin.

Months before the election, I was struck by all the Trump signs throughout the state. Other than in urban areas like Milwaukee and Madison, the signs were everywhere. Trump had a lot of support in Wisconsin and it didn't just spring up in the waning days of the campaign as Hillary claims.

Google searches? Give me a break!

We rejected Democrats. We were told Hillary would win Wisconsin and Feingold likely would defeat Johnson. That's what was going to happen according to polls.

WRONG!

The polls were wrong. We voted for Ron Johnson and kept Russ Feingold out of the Senate. We voted for Donald Trump and kept Hillary out of the White House.

The good thing about Hillary coming out and talking crazy like this is that it prompts me to relive Election Day. That night, watching the returns, was incredible. First, we learned that Feingold failed, again, to defeat Ron Johnson. It was such a relief. I was so happy Johnson won. And then, Wisconsin was called for Trump.

For the first time since Ronald Reagan, the Republican nominee won Wisconsin.

Hillary's weaponizing WikiLeaks theory is loony. We were not duped by the Russians and their allies. It's insulting for her to say Wisconsinites were too stupid to make an informed choice. The reality is she was on course to lose. She didn't campaign here. She miscalculated. She lost because we rejected HER and the Democrat agenda.

It wasn't the Russians, Hillary. It was you.

Jimmy Fallon: Comey 'Intelligence Porn' Joke

JIMMY FALLON: Today, FBI Director James Comey testified before Congress and he referred to WikiLeaks as 'intelligence porn.' Mike Pence was like, "You had me at 'intelligence' and you lost me at 'porn.'" While Trump was like, "You lost me at 'intelligence' and won me back at 'porn.'"

Jimmy Fallon: Rachel Maddow Illegal to Steal and Publish Tax Returns, WikiLeaks Joke

JIMMY FALLON: Meanwhile, the White House is also criticizing Rachel Maddow, saying it's totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns. They said the documents should be released the proper way, by having a Russian hacker give them to WikiLeaks.

WikiLeaks: CIA Keeps Devices Vulnerable to Hacking

From the Wall Street Journal:

“These documents, which appear to be authentic, show that the intelligence community has deliberately maintained vulnerabilities in the most common devices used by hundreds of millions of people,” Ben Wizner, the director of the Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project at the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement.

“Those vulnerabilities will be exploited not just by our security agencies, but by hackers and governments around the world. The government has the capacity and obligation to help technology companies fix vulnerabilities as soon as they are discovered,” Mr. Wizner said.

...WikiLeaks said one of the documents also shows how the CIA developed a program to hack internet-connected televisions in conjunction with British intelligence. The attacks can place Samsung smart TVs in a fake off mode, so the owner believes the television is switched off, while in reality it is functioning as a bug and recording conversations in the room, WikiLeaks said.

It's the CIA's job to monitor foreign entities.

But, intentionally maintaining vulnerabilities in devices puts us all at risk.

WikiLeaks: Year Zero, Vault 7 - MISDIRECT ATTRIBUTION

If I want to keep something private, something important, I will not write it an email, a text, or on paper. I won't discuss it on a phone. I assume someone could access that information.

Am I paranoid?

No. I'm being smart. If privacy is really important, if it's classified information, top secret stuff in my personal life, I don't leave any sort of trail.

Today's WikiLeaks "Year Zero" dump show how much spying is routinely happening.

Remember in Godfather II when Michael says, "If anything in this life is certain, if history has taught us anything, it's that you can kill anyone"?

The update to that should be you can hack anyone.

This revelation is particularly enlightening. It blows apart the Russian interference in our election narrative.

From WikiLeaks:

The CIA's Remote Devices Branch's UMBRAGE group collects and maintains a substantial library of attack techniques 'stolen' from malware produced in other states including the Russian Federation.

With UMBRAGE and related projects the CIA cannot only increase its total number of attack types but also misdirect attribution by leaving behind the "fingerprints" of the groups that the attack techniques were stolen from.

UMBRAGE components cover keyloggers, password collection, webcam capture, data destruction, persistence, privilege escalation, stealth, anti-virus (PSP) avoidance and survey techniques.

All that "proof" that Russia's fingerprints were all over the election is called into question.

It's not as if we didn't know the possibility of manipulation, making it appear Russians were the source of interference.

"Misdirect attribution" means that the alleged fingerprints become highly questionable, if not completely meaningless.

Chelsea Manning - Obama Commutes Sentence

Overruling his secretary of defense, Obama gave a gift to Chelsea Manning.

From CNN:

President Barack Obama on Tuesday overruled his secretary of defense to commute the sentence of former Army soldier Chelsea Manning, who was convicted of stealing and disseminating 750,000 pages of documents and videos to WikiLeaks.

The decision -- which a senior defense official told CNN was made over the objections of Secretary of Defense Ash Carter -- immediately touched off a controversy in the closing days of the Obama administration.

A former intelligence official described being "shocked" to learn of Obama's decision, adding that the "entire intelligence community is deflated by this inexplicable use of executive power." The official said the move was "deeply hypocritical given Obama's denunciation of WikiLeaks' role in the hacking of the (Democratic National Committee)."

I don't get where Obama stands on leaks and hacking.

He cites all the damage done but then he lets off someone convicted of stealing and putting out "750,000 pages of documents and videos."

If Obama cares about the release of sensitive information, he's certainly deals with it in a stunningly inconsistent manner.

Podesta Gave Away His Password

We've known this for months. John Podesta allowed his email account to be hacked. He offered access to his information because he screwed up and his staff screwed up.

in addition, the guy's password was "password"!

From FOX News:

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange told Fox News' Sean Hannity in an exclusive interview that a teenager could have hacked into Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's computer and retrieved damaging email messages that the website published during last year's election campaign.

"We published several ... emails which show Podesta responding to a phishing email," Assange said during Part I of the interview, which aired on "Hannity" Tuesay night. "Podesta gave out that his password was the word ‘password’. His own staff said this email that you’ve received, this is totally legitimate. So, this is something ... a 14-year-old kid could have hacked Podesta that way."

...Wikileaks published more than 50,000 emails detailing dubious practices at the Clinton Foundation, top journalists working closely with the Clinton campaign, key Clinton aides speaking derisively of Catholics and a top Democratic National Committee (DNC) official providing debate questions to Clinton in advance.

Assange has repeatedly denied claims by the Obama administration that Russia was behind the cyberattacks that exposed the DNC and Podesta emails. Assange has repeatedly insisted that Wikileaks' source for the emails was not the Russian government or any "state party," and said the outgoing administration was attempting to "delegitimize" President-Elect Donald Trump by making those claims.
When it comes to Podesta, he granted access to his account.

That was not some sort of sophisticated cyberattack. It was his mistake.

When it comes to the Obama administration's claim that the Russian government was behind the hacking alleged to influence the election, there's something that doesn't make sense.

Why would Russia want Trump to be president? It certainly seems it would have been in Russia's interests to have Hillary Clinton, an appeaser, be elected and continue the dreadfully misguided and weak Obama foreign policy.

Trump has promised to rebuild our military. Why would Russia want that?

Sean Hannity Interviews Julian Assange

Julian Assange insists that Russia was not the source of the hacked emails from the DNC and John Podesta.

He says it was "no state party."

From RealClearPolitics:

In an exclusive interview with FOX News Channel's Sean Hannity the founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange said Russia was not the source for the DNC and John Podesta hacks.
SEAN HANNITY: Can you say to the American people, unequivocally, that you did not get this information about the DNC, John Podesta's emails, can you tell the American people 1,000 percent that you did not get it from Russia or anybody associated with Russia?

JULIAN ASSANGE: Yes. We can say, we have said, repeatedly that over the last two months that our source is not the Russian government and it is not a state party.

If the source is ever revealed and it's not Russia, Obama will look like a complete fool.
