Sarah Palin Interviews

The Democrats must be ticked off.

One of their favorite talking points at the moment is that the McCain campaign won't let the media near Sarah Palin, that she would fall apart under questioning from the press.

That line of criticism has to be abandoned.

From Politico:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will speak at her son’s Army deployment ceremony on 9/11 and spend two days with ABC News crews later this week as part of a McCain campaign plan to increase Americans’ comfort with her as a leader.

Campaign and network officials had said on Sunday that her first television interview would be a sit-down with Charles Gibson of ABC’s “World News.”

But it turns out that she is spending much of Thursday and Friday with Gibson — at the ceremony in Fairbanks, Alaska, and at her home in Wasilla, Alaska.

Campaign aides said the anchorman will get extensive, repeated access to Palin throughout her first trip home since becoming the nominee.

“ABC News will have plenty of time to question her and examine her and spend time with her,” a campaign official said. “They’ll do multiple interviews over two days. No topics are off-limits – there are no ground rules. There’s tons of time to talk to her about every topic.”

The remarkable rollout reflects new confidence in Palin by her handlers, who initially had suggested it would be a while before she did interviews. Now, there will be several.

Until now, Palin has been "sequestered," as Sen. Joseph Biden (Del.), her Democratic counterpart, put it on NBC's "Meet the Press" — delivering rousing speeches, but not giving interviews or holding news conferences or answering questions on the fly. She was the only one of the four national candidates not to appear on a Sunday show this weekend.

This is key: "No topics are off-limits – there are no ground rules."

The Democrats and their accomplices in the lib media have acted as if Palin was hiding from the press because she's incapable of getting through an interview or answering questions.

How do they think she got elected to be governor of Alaska? By having no contact with the press? It's not as if she's never held a news conference.

It's been a ridiculous complaint. Biden's "sequestered" comment was just plain goofy, as so many of his comments are.

I look forward to Palin doing interviews. I have confidence in her.

Actually, the press and the Obama campaign should be concerned that a series of interviews with Palin might mean her popularity will soar to new heights, taking the star spotlight off of Obama. She may sway more and more people to get on board with her and McCain.

If Palin does well in the interviews, great.

If there is any indication that she's being treated unfairly, then supporters will rally and come to her defense.

The Dems and their media mouthpieces should be careful what they wish for.

Both presidential candidates sit for interviews on the Sunday talk shows this week, but where’s Sarah? She’s heading back to Alaska for a few days, and has no announced plans for any major media interviews. Why? She’s ready to be president, according to the campaign, but she’s not ready to take questions on television? “We’re going to do what we think is in our best interest,” said McCain strategist Rick Davis on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Clearly, their best interest is to protect the myth of Sarah without allowing anyone to question it for fear of bursting the delicate narrative of her. Is this how a passenger on the “straight talk express” should act? Perhaps they know the truth: as soon as Palin opens her mouth, the electorate will see her for what she is - an extreme conservative who is seriously out-of-step with the beliefs of the majority of the country, and a novice politician with little understanding of the larger issues effecting us today. She’s not ready to answer any specific questions on domestic or foreign policy, so they need to hide her away with tutors before her debate with Biden.

Give her some time.

Good grief.

Look how long it took for Barack Obama to appear on FOX News Sunday.

772 days!

Sarah has been the nominee for two weeks!

Don't be ridiculous. Really.

Now that she's had her interviews, it should be clear that Palin is barely conversant on the issues of the day. Her answers were glib and evasive. No journalist is going to press her to the point where she falls apart. McCain didn't pick her because she has the experience or knowledge to be VP; he picked her because he wants to win more that he wants to do what is right for the country.

Her answers weren't glib and evasive.

I think McCain picked her because she is a conservative and a reformer.

Any comments on the CBS inerviews? I havn't seen all of them but what I did see was amazing. Sarah was stumbling, incomprehensible and appeared frightened. Just what we need in a face to face with Putin. She was so bad she almost makes Bush look good.

I read some excerpts, but I haven't seen any of the video.

I can't judge her performance without seeing it.
