Chad Michael Morisette's Halloween Display

UPDATE, October 30, 2008: WeHo Homeowners Pull Down Sarah Palin Effigy

An effigy of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been taken down from a West Hollywood home, after the homeowner discussed the situation with the city's mayor.

The mannequin hanging by a noose was part of a larger Halloween display that included an effigy of John McCain coming out of the chimney surrounded by fake flames. The display has drawn national attention and a visit from the Secret Service, which decided there was no threat.

...Local politicians and city officials, including Supervisor Mike Antonovich, called the images offensive and urged their removal.

Creator Chad Morrissette decided to remove the figures after discussing the situation with West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Chad Michael Morisette

In the spirit of Halloween, "Hanging" Chad Michael Morisette has put up a display at his house.
ST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- A Halloween decoration showing a mannequin dressed as vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin hanging by a noose from the roof of a West Hollywood home is drawing giggles from some passers-by and gasps of outrage from others.

The mannequin is dressed in brunet wig, glasses and a red business suit. Another mannequin dressed as John McCain emerges from a flaming chimney.

Chad Michael Morisette, who lives in the house, told CBS 2 News that drivers and bus passengers have been stopping to snap pictures of the macabre scene.

Morisette says the effigy would be out of bounds at any other time of year, but it's within the spirit of Halloween.

He says "it should be seen as art, and as within the month of October. It's Halloween, it's time to be scary it's time to be spooky."

Art?

I think not.

Will Al Sharpton and other activists demand that Morisette remove the effigy of Sarah Palin hanging from a noose? Will the media express outrage over the display?

I think not.

Greta Van Susteren writes:

[C]an you imagine the media outrage if that were Senator Obama? Senator Biden? and what would be the reaction of Senator McCain?

...This time it is not enough for the media to tell this story…it is time to say STOP and TIME FOR THE MEDIA TO SPEAK UP….EDITORS and COLUMNISTS and others on TV should step up and put an end to this…to ignore it is to say you agree with it.

Let’s not forget, Governor Palin is the Governor of the nation’s largest state with an approval rate of 80 per cent at home. This treatment of this woman is deplorable.

Where's the outrage from NOW?

The National Organization for Women is an absolute joke.

I guess treating Sarah Palin with such disrespect is acceptable to NOW. She's not a woman the organization cares about protecting.

Disgusting.

I think it's a very partisan display. Very bad art taste too.
He is not even an artist, and
does not have any common sense.
If he is a democrat, and does such things, just put it on top of his house "I am the crazy democrat".

Chad M. Morisette just wants to draw attention of the media, for money, or from attention deficiency syndrome ?

I agree, 66.

Sadly, the display isn't and won't be condemned by all.

It is horrible...not even scary just really sad there isn't outrage by NOW or the mainstream media.

This is at the corner of Fountain Ave and Orange Grove Ave (1 block East of Fairfax) in West Hollywood...expect it to be taken down soon, by hook or by crook...

Just as disgusting is your assumption that the media will not find this display unfunny and disrpectful.

Well, you are wrong. I just heard Keith Oberman of MSNBC express outrage and give Chad Michael Morisette his Worst Person in the World Award.

You think too little of good people sometimes Mary.

I beg for this effigy to stay put, only to further show the HATRED that the Socialist left shows to those that they oppose and this just shows a small part of their descent of the evolutionary chain. They are not smart enough to pose a battle of wits first off and have to go out and do whatever it takes to get attention. They may win the elections, but they are losing the battle.

Okay, the only thing you said in that comment that made any sense was "evolutionary". At least you believe in evolution.

Gee, I wonder what the reaction in Wee Ho would be if an effigy of a public gay figure where strung up like that during Halloween...

Obviously conservatives are turning themselves inside out over this Halloween display, but for what it's worth, liberal pundit Keith Olbermann also condemned the display tonight on his show.

To "Anonymous," 10:00 PM, October 27, 2008--

Of course, some in the media are condemning the display. Good grief.

But is it a frenzy of condemnation across the board? Is the disgusting display the lead story on national broadcasts? Not even close.

I'm glad to hear that Olbermann condemned Morisette, though that hardly makes up for the way he has personally and viciously attacked Palin, McCain, Bush, Cheney, etc.

From seeing your picture your a little wimp with no real guts and if you had nerve you would put a
B.Obama dummy with a noose around his neck .Would you put a member of your family hanging with a noose around their neck. Your probably a gayster and your afraid of a women that stands up for whats right.

Right on Chad. Palin deserves to be dressed like one of her moose. Just watch a film on aerial wolf hunting, and listen to her divisive, Jesus- freak politics. Omaba does not seek to suppress anyone (Palin wants to pass a federal mandate against gay marriage and overturn Roe V Wade). Palin is a white woman, it is NOT the same as if an effigy of a black man her hung. There is no history here of hanging white women you morons. That includes you Greta VS!!

freedom of speech.

not

freedom of speech unless you don't agree with the sucker.

no it's freedom of speech.

The Effigy of Chad (per Crackhead Almanac) is accurate. It is also actual art. Doesnt matter what history someone can use to justify whatever.....Sarah Palin deserves none of the attacks she has had to endure in order to shatter a glass ceiling that foot in mouth libs tirelessly maintain. Where is the Hillary Effigy?

It is only freedom of speech if you can do the same to an effigy of Senator Obama
