Guantanamo Detainees in Illinois?

Bring detainees from Guantanamo Bay and house them in Thomson, Illinois, not too far south of the Wisconsin border?

Unbelievable.

It seems every day the Obama adminstration comes up with something new to give me a headache and make my stomach churn.

From the Wall Street Journal:

The U.S. is looking at a mostly unused prison in Illinois as a place to move some terrorism suspects now detained at Guantanamo Bay, administration officials said.

The idea of using the Thomson Correctional Center, 150 miles west of Chicago, has the support of some local elected officials, including Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate. But people in Thomson, a town of roughly 500 people bordering the Mississippi River, said that while they welcome the economic lift, they worry about the possible effect from people visiting the detainees.

Thankfully, this latest horrible idea by the Obama administration is being opposed by some Illinois lawmakers.

From the Chicago Tribune:

Several Illinois lawmakers say the Chicago area would become a terrorist target if Guantanamo Bay detainees are moved to a prison in western Illinois.

Republican U.S. Reps. Mark Kirk, Don Manzullo, Judy Biggert and Peter Roskam held a news conference in Chicago Monday. They say an Obama administration proposal to buy the state's Thomson Correctional Center is too risky.

Kirk says he'll ask Congress to require that the administration assess the potential security risks to O'Hare International Airport and the Willis Tower. The lawmakers say the governor and state legislature should be required to approve such a move.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and Sen. Dick Durbin also will hold a news conference Monday in support of the plan.

Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle should oppose the plan.

Wisconsin lawmakers should voice their opposition as well.

I don't want the new Gitmo to be so close to home.

There is no reason to bring the detainees to northwestern Illinois or anywhere in the U.S.

This is a political move, pure and simple.

Obama has broken so many of his promises. It's no big deal for him to break the closing Gitmo promise, too.

Keep the terrorists off American soil. Is that too much to ask?
