Christine O'Donnell, Witchcraft, and Bill Maher

Bill Maher had fun smearing Christine O'Donnell on Real Time on Friday.

Mark Levin responds to Maher's use of a 1999 clip from Politically Incorrect in which O'Donnell talks about dabbling in witchcraft.

Levin writes:

Barack Obama dabbled in cocaine.

Remember this? Somehow, it didn't disqualify Obama for "high" office. In fact, it didn't even seem to affect his image at the time Obama made it public. Obama even explained his revelation as altruistic -- the public appreciates honestly and openness of this sort, he insisted.

But now, Bill Maher, a true sleaze ball, releases some unused clip from one of his programs where Christine O'Donnell talks about witchcraft and her youth (frankly, it's not even clear what, exactly, she had to do with witchcraft in any real way, other than dating some guy who may have been into it). CBS considers this newsworthy.

John Hinderaker at the Powerline website, considers it a career-killer. http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/09/027251.php (What an ass.) The piling on will begin because these people literally hate O'Donnell.

But at least O'Donnell didn't kill anybody at Chappaquiddick (Ted Kennedy), join the Ku Klux Klan (Bob Byrd), "allegedly" commit rape (Bill Clinton), or, like Harry Reid's pet, Chris Coons, dabble in Marxism.

Oh, and don't give me this nonsense about her being held to a higher standard because we conservatives are better. This is a hit job over something that is old and of no consequence.

Levin makes excellent points.

I think this O'Donnell derangement syndrome is such a waste.

Why talk about witchcraft?

Let's talk about the economy and health care and what a mess the Democrats have made. And why we need conservatives in the Senate.

Why does no one care about this? A Christian political party such as the baggers should be going crazy they are being led around by a former witch. But I'm sure she repented for that. ;-)

I am particularly amused by the quote from Mark Levin commenting that, at least O'Donnell didn't dabble in Marxism. I wonder where Marx came up with his famous slogan, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"?

Y'all might want to go re-read Acts Ch. 4:

"And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need."

Marxism: So terrible, it was commanded by Peter and John and enforced, rather harshly, by God himself on poor (I mean wealthy), capitalist Ananias and Sapphira.

If this were satanic type witchcraft, as would be indicated by the bloody alter, instead of the more friendly wicca type stuff, wouldn't this constitute committing the one unpardonable sin?

You can't use Christianity to defend Marxism.

Marx considered religion to be the opium of the people. He believed that religion had to be abolished.

Joseph Stalin considered himself a Marxist. How many souls did he save?

The O'Donnell witchcraft thing is a positively goofy attack.

The Left is losing it. Literally.

To August26: "multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul"

IOW, they did this of their own free will. Freedom vs. coercion is the difference between what is described in Acts and what takes place under Marxism.

Bingy: did you actually hear what she said about it in context? It was something she was exposed to as a high school kid. That's not really the same as "being led around by a former witch." And yeah, even if she had been an actual witch, if she figured out it was wrong, repented of her sin, and quit doing it, that would be fine with most Christians.

I believe I just did, so, Yes I can.

Religion IS the opiate of the masses - no need to think for yourself when you have some convenient figure like the Pope or Glenn Beck to tell you what you ought to think. Better yet, not only is thinking for yourself not required, it is a sin against God that will result in eternal damnation. And as proof I offer (again) Acts Ch. 4!

If redistributing wealth is so bad, so un-American and therefore un-Christian, then why did God require it? Why did God strike down those that didn't willingly give up all their worldly possessions to share with those less fortunate than themselves?

That is such a difficult question, and so contradicts the dogma of today's conservatives, that I would happily wager a fair amount that not a single conservative here will dare to offer a thoughtful response beyond the typical "you suck". Cue mindless responses:

Oh, and as for Stalin - probably as many souls as the Catholic Church did during the Crusades and the Inquisition.

Do some research on Stalin's regime and get back to me.

To DW:

I think Ananias and Sapphira would beg to differ on the freedom vs. coercion issue. They clearly liked the message enough to follow Peter and John around, but weren't willing to commit themselves fully to the communal living requirements. Their reward for exercising freedom? Summary execution.

I don't know about you, but after seeing someone executed for failure to tow the party line, I might feel a bit less free and a tad bit more coerced.

More died under Stalin.
