OBAMA GOES TO CHURCH!

Brace yourself. This is a SHOCKER!!!

Obama and the family attended a church service this morning!

It's historic, a very rare moment in the Obama presidency!

Remember this day!

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this nineteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand ten, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fourth!

From Reuters:

President Barack Obama, who invoked his own Christian faith recently in seeking to quell anti-Muslim sentiment in the United States, attended church in Washington on Sunday for the first time in about five months.

Obama and his family strolled a block from the White House to St. John's Episcopal Church, a place of worship for many of his predecessors, for an hour-long service.

It was one of just a handful of times Obama has gone to church in Washington since taking office in January 2009, and follows opinion polls showing that as many as one in five Americans falsely believe he is Muslim.

Obama's visit came after he appealed for religious tolerance after a Florida pastor's threat to burn copies of the Koran sparked an outcry in the Muslim world and controversy swirled around plans to build a Muslim cultural center and mosque near the site of the September 11 attacks in New York.

"As someone who relies heavily on my Christian faith in my job, I understand the passions that religious faith can make," Obama told a September 10 news conference.

The Obama family never joined a church in Washington. Obama has said it would be too disruptive to the congregation. The White House says he regularly attends services at a chapel at Camp David when spends weekends at the presidential retreat in Maryland.

Obama was a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago before quitting in 2008 during the presidential campaign amid controversy over provocative sermons by its former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

The last time Obama went to a Sunday service in Washington was to celebrate Easter in early April.

STUNNING!

Obama goes to church. It's hard to comprehend. It's so unusual.

Why this morning?

Why now?

Maybe Obama was trying to get a jump on quashing the controversy about his omitting the "Creator" when quoting the Declaration of Independence.

Did his handlers convince him that his worship via Blackberry wasn't going over well with the American people?

Has Obama decided it's time to give the appearance that he clings to his Bible?

Does he want to allay all the confusion among the American people about his religion?

Is this supposed to be an indication that his allegiance isn't with Islam?

Is this part of an extreme makeover to boost his approval ratings and help the floundering Democrats?

If it is, it's lame.

As an election ploy, it's meaningless.

Obama and the family can walk across the street and trot over to church but that won't help put anyone back to work. It's the economy, stupid.

I wonder what Bill Maher and his followers think about this.

Does it show that Obama is a fool for going to "where people go to retell nonsense stories from a time before men understood what a germ or an atom was or where the sun went at night"?

If Maher is consistent, yes.

What do the sophisticated non-believers like Maher think about their supreme leader Obama trying "to telepathically communicate with [his] imaginary friend" and going to a church, "places that fleece people and scare people and they perpetuate mass delusion"?

If Maher and his sheep are consistent, they should mock Obama the way they mock Sarah Palin.

Do you think Rev. Luis Leon gave a fiery sermon and exclaimed, "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human"?

I doubt it.

Obama and the family must have felt uncomfortable. They're accustomed to a very different type of church.

Twenty years with Rev. Jeremiah Wright has to have a permanent effect on a person.

I wonder if he had to fight the urge to take off his shoes, lay on the floor, prostrate himself toward Mecca, etc.?

For a bunch of "religious" folk, you don't seem to take your Bible very seriously. Why is it so important to you that the President take his alms before you? Why do you ask that he sound a trumpet to announce his faith to you? Why, when Christ himself tells us not to do these things? It seems to me that you are the hypocrites Christ warned against.

Matthew 6:1-6 --

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

"For a bunch of 'religious' folk"?

What do you mean by that?
